Career tackles:

Bandy - 61
Finley - 41
Knowles - 40
Carter - 38
Smith - 24
Blades - 13
Bolden - 8
Hall - 8
Murphy - 4
Ivey - 3
Frierson - 1
Bethel - 1
Williams - 0
Couch - 0
K. Smith - 0

Despite losing 4 of our top 5 DBs from 2018 there's actually a fair amount of experience despite paltry career stats overall (6 career interceptions total)

Knowles, Bandy, Finley, Carter, Smith have played a lot in 2017 & 2018.

Hall, Blades, Ivey, Bolden have paid their dues on special teams.

Frierson and Bethel have played in a college football game.

Williams, Couch, Keontra are on campus.

With Bandy and Finley certain to play every snap, that means 12 players will battle for the 3 remaining DB spots on the field: Carter, Ivey, Hall, Blades, Bolden, Smith, Frierson, Williams, Keontra, Couch, Knowles, Murphy.

Who is with me in expecting DB to be a strength in 2019?

I'm not there on a strength, YET. I will agree it's not going to be the giant drop-off a lot are expecting. I think pass rush will be the strength of the team which in turn should help the DBs out immensely as long as they don't coverage bust. I really want to see Carter take that next step.

The talent is there for sure though.

Playing behind our front 7, they can be and let’s face it this is the most talented db group collectively we have had in years. Yes we have had plenty of dbs that have made the nfl in recent years but not many of them were as talented as some of the dbs we got now imo

They'll be better than a lot of people think, for sure. But the STRENGTH has got to be the D-Line.

I'm not proud of it but I have to admit my blood pressure rises every time I see the seven letters that spell out "Knowles"
Pills are good....

Does anyone have an footage of the young CBs in game action last year mainly Ivey and Blades. I think they will be critical to our success.

Bruh, like what is he doing in practice that always make the staff believe in him?
He knows what to do and in practice speed with controlled settings, he looks like one of the best.

But when gametime comes around, he just doesn’t have the live game IQ or instinctiveness to be in the right place.

This is probably accurate. Practice speed and game speed are so different. But i blame more of Banda hyping him and trying to put him on the field even though all he does is make mistakes. I think we saw him a lot less as the season went on.

Exactly. We have 2 1/2 years of film now with him being out of position in game situations. I think he's made like 1 impact play in his career here (I think a FF on specials). If he's still out there this year fvckin up, we gotta hold Banda accountable.

I don't necessarily think they will be a "strength" but they will definitely not be a weakness and will be far from a liability! It's all going to come down to "safety" play, considering our defensive scheme!

If Bolden and Hall click and really "get it" right away, the secondary can be scary good. Key word here is IF.

Gonna be tough for the Safeties to replicate what Redwine and JJ combined to do for our defense (highly predicated on Safety awareness), but hopefully their replacements can make up some of the gap with their individual athleticism/natural ability.

Working on a longer post breaking down last year's defense and what we might expect with this year's replacements. Still have to re-watch 3 games.

In a perfect world.

At CB you would have Blades, Ivey, Bandy play at a high level with Hall, Smith, Bolden, and Carter as solid safety rotation keeping Knowles off the field. Finley and Frierson at striker making plays.

CB is our only truly thin spot. There's no denying we will have to rely on youth for depth at that position this season.

He’s made a ton of impact plays in big moments, just none of them were in our favor.
