Defensive Back

Whiffing on so many local stud CBs will show and keep it from being a strength. They could be serviceable, though, and elite QB pressure will mask their deficiencies somewhat.

Side note it feels like Knowles has been here forever. Pretty sure his first act after Lincoln freed him was signing with us. I’m ready for him to sail off into obscurity.

How man “stud” local dbs did we have last year when we fielded the #1 ranked passing defense in the country

Career tackles:

Bandy - 61
Finley - 41
Knowles - 40
Carter - 38
Smith - 24
Blades - 13
Bolden - 8
Hall - 8
Murphy - 4
Ivey - 3
Frierson - 1
Bethel - 1
Williams - 0
Couch - 0
K. Smith - 0

Despite losing 4 of our top 5 DBs from 2018 there's actually a fair amount of experience despite paltry career stats overall (6 career interceptions total)

Knowles, Bandy, Finley, Carter, Smith have played a lot in 2017 & 2018.

Hall, Blades, Ivey, Bolden have paid their dues on special teams.

Frierson and Bethel have played in a college football game.

Williams, Couch, Keontra are on campus.

With Bandy and Finley certain to play every snap, that means 12 players will battle for the 3 remaining DB spots on the field: Carter, Ivey, Hall, Blades, Bolden, Smith, Frierson, Williams, Keontra, Couch, Knowles, Murphy.

Who is with me in expecting DB to be a strength in 2019?
Am happy with Safety's. The concern is when we have to put the 3rd CB on the field. That is why I might expect a lot of zone coverage early in the season, But if the DL is as good as advertised an can create pressure with the base four, then we will be OK.
