Decline in talent under Richt and Diaz

Richt was washed before he came here and manny was the biggest joke
Agreed. Between our last Natl Champion and Mario, we had five coaches that were all bad hires. Richt was at one time a good coach (and a decent person), but the version of him we got was not what he was a few years earlier.

Mario has his faults, but he's easily better than the previous five.

If Richt couldn't recruit at Miami, but could at Georgia, then the difference is the school. Now before you all jump on me calling out his age and his Parkinson's disease, I do want to point out this is the only dude since Coker to win us a bowl game. To DATE! Also last season was the first time since Richt's 2017 season we had a 10 win season and now we once again beat a top 10 team (ND).
Richt helped champion and fund the IPF that Mario gets to enjoy and use for recruiting purposes.

The school has not recruited for itself since the Coker years. Some of you need to understand that. We had to land one of the top recruiters in the nation, who may not even be here if not for being an alumnus. It's going to be a few seasons before the stench of mediocrity wears off of Miami for a less talented recruiter to swoop in and coast.

How did Shannon's recruiting compare to Coker's? How did Golden's recruiting compare to Shannon's?

Fortunately, Mario has both the energy and the NIL supporting him. We hope he's been able to hire the right coordinators this time to prove to recruits they are making the right decision on NSD.

The Pro Bowl and All-Pro lists each season used to be LITTERED with Canes. Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Hester, Edge, Portis, McGahee, Olsen, Graham, Sapp, Andre Johnson, Reggie Wayne and many, many more. It was almost comical to see all the Canes on those lists back then.

How many we got making those lists now?

The CMR we got was a shell of himself from his days at UGA. Yes he was flawed but he wasn't a cheater which is why, IMO, UGA recruiting skyrocketed because of the big bad bag men. I've said this before and will say again I will not speak bad on this guy because lucky or not, that 2017 season reminded all of us what we as Miami fans were used to seeing. Crazed fans, good defense, and natl exposure.

As for the previous coaches before and after him,(minus Mario), in the words of the late great Deacon Jones, "I would put them all in a bag and take a baseball bat and beat on the bag. "

And in sacrificing millions on principle, for the love of his school, he demonstrated the type of character that very few coaches have ever possessed.

But how much can we actually attribute the classes to them as recruiters vs the lack of bags available to throw around? Richt or Manny with the amount of money we spend now would have been different, no?

Since 2003 and prior to Mario, we’ve either had Head Coaches that could couldn’t recruit, or couldn’t coach, or were stubborn about both! Mario is a relentless recruiter and so far he has enough self and program awareness to make changes for the better.

bingo

something to look back on in awe: if (when) the deserving guys get into the Pro HOF, we will have had a Hall of Famer in six straight draft classes (and 7 of 8):

'99: Edge
'00: no
'01: Reggie Wayne*
'02: Ed Reed
'03: Andre J
'04: Wilfork*
'05: Gore*
'06: Hester

that is ******* NUTS to think about. will never happen again.

lol has anyone noticed Stanford and Clemson are tied for 1st in the ACC? You’d think clemson was higher and that Stanford would have more success on the field

What the actual ****!?!

I've never been more shocked and angry in relation to sports than when Richt retired (cos he wouldn't fire his son), walking away from a boatload of money and gave us the freedom to hire a great coach and the AD ****ed down his leg and got played by Manny Diaz.
He didn't get played, we got played. What we witnessed was pure nepotism. He gave the job to his buddy Manny without even so much as a phone call to any other candidates. He didn't even pretend to to do a coaching search.

***** Miaz was a LB/DC by trade and he couldn’t recruit a LB to save his life and his defenses as the HC progressively got worse

Trumpycane thinks that says everything about him

If you can’t recruit/coach your side of the ball how do you expect to be successful?

Did we take a flyer on Carson Beck?
I mean not as much of a flier as on someone who literally quit the sport because his body was too broken...but yeah, kinda. Could just have easily not been able to throw anymore. If we're being truly honest, we still need to see how much he can attack downfield.

Richt voluntarily resigning and giving substantial funds back to the school to replace him (and earlier for the IPF) washed away his mistakes and absolves him of all criticism imo. He made the program respectable again with a taste of real success in 2017, and set it up to succeed had Beta Blake not flushed the opportunity down the toilet.

Yeah, but he can talk a good game.
