Decline in SEC talent

It is no coincidence that the SEC rise. The prominent came during Miami’s decline, and now the tables have turned back the way they should be.

I wonder our TV executives were worried about overpaying the sec when the TV deals expire in 2030

Bill Gates’ income is approximately 10 million. PER DAY.

Billionaires laugh at $40 million per year
Yup if one of the huge tech dudes was into football it would be silly…

so far the only “oil money” that’s been loud has been the tech former player turned power booster. I’m really shocked SMU hasn’t killed it more but I’d have to guess their boosters being tied up on actually funding the athletic dept these few years until their full ACC membership status is a drain no matter who you are

Daniel Jeremiah is a former scout and top NFL Draft analyst:

The SEC had the most players drafted again last year- and they have had the most going back around the last 20 years. I don't know how this years draft plays out- but the SEC is a long way off from having a solid decline in talent.

Its been years since the SEC has been in the championship even though the playoffs are rigged with them being half the field

SEC going to complain like the Karen’s they are about NIL. They do not want to be a basic conference and they won’t make as much $$$ with jag rosters

The SEC will find a way to navigate NIL- their commish doesn't believe in being second best.

Even so- they still put the most players into the NFL. This is about overall talent in a conference- not the best team.

I'll say this, for as good and powerful the SEC claims to be, they sure love to poach ACC players, many from average (at best) teams, with most of those players excelling at that level of competition. I think sometimes the.media and fans confuse level of enthusiasm and game day atmosphere with level of player, for which the SEC is. superior in the former but not necessarily the latter.

Harvard/Yale/Princeton/Stanford would dominate college sports if their alumni cared.
Stanford is the most peculiar school on this list as they take sports seriously and have had great athletes, albeit often in sports like golf and swimming. But they don’t seem to care much about football and basketball. And for that we should all be thankful.

I think Andrew Luck may be a catalyst for change in that regard.

The SEC schools, for the most part, are not in ideal situations to take advantage of NIL.
The BIG 10 schools like Michigan, Illinois, USC, have not only a large alumni base, but they have a very wealthy alumni base. Not people who own car dealerships and local businesses, but people who are CEO’s of multi-national companies.

The same is true of Miami. The Mas brothers and the Soffer family were never going to give out cash in McDonalds bags. But they can financially support athletics above the table for as long as they care to without even feeling the financial difference.

The SEC is not going away, but expect that league to become a loud voice for NIL regulation/reform/limitations.

One minor clarification; historically, the richest individuals in town were the real estate folks and the car dealers. Technology has expanded but not changed that.
