He almost matched his entire college career sack production in one NfL preseason game.

Do I think he could help us? Of course, absolutely.

Do I think this staff, given how they are wired and strong on culture and earning your keep, will just let this kid walk in to an unfamiliar place and defensive system 2 weeks from kick and start over 1.) a guy who is likely our highest paid player on Defense and top 3 on team in Wilson and 2.) a guy in Blount who enters Y2 in the system, has put in the time/work and appears to be a superb kid off the field and has earned his opportunity to start? No, they won’t do that. I won’t even mention Lightfoot since they’d play 2 different roles.
And that’s if he were to show up TODAY. The kid hasn’t even been cut, and who knows when he will.

I just don’t think it’s a match/fit for us ultimately because you’re right - he is going to want to start, but he aint starting here 🤷🏾‍♂️. Him getting a couple sacks in Preseason game 1 vs a bunch of UDFA’s and guys who will be selling insurance in 18 months doesn’t really move me.

He’s an edge with three career sacks in four seasons of college football. He’s not starting at Miami.
@Cribby already hit on it

It’s not about starting it’s about filling a need we don’t have. We have the twitchy edge rushers in waves. We don’t have a grown man run stopping DE to handle the dirty work

Which is why if he comes back to college it will be @ a school where he can maximize his opportunities as a starter and improve his NFL stock and not Miami (in my opinion)

Armondo Blount and Keona Davis would argue we have two guys who can set the edge and stuff the run already. If Pybum wants to be a rotational end, he would help us out but like I said originally, I can’t imagine he’s coming back to college to play fewer snaps than he did last year.

I don’t agree with this but it doesn’t really matter

drafted players can play in college in baseball right? what’s the difference?
Well those baseball players never signed a MLB contract or appeared in spring training games with a MLB team. They have to choose to go pro or play baseball in college.

Whose snaps is he taking? Id be pretty concerned with Blount and Lightfoots development if this kid comes in and takes their spot right away. No offense to the kid

I'd certainly take him as a depth piece, and I bet the staff would as well. However, you have to look at the situation from his perspective. Is he really going to give up a practice squad spot to come back to college just to be a role player and log garbage time snaps? Given what he has at the top of the room, I think that is his role here. If he's on board for that, then come right along. However, I'd imagine he'd want to play a lot

He joined the lawsuit. I'd imagine that is something of an indication about what he might want to do.

If he comes to UM, if UM makes a CFP run, if he logs some TFLs and sacks, he likely gets drafted instead of being a UDFA.

If he comes in I wouldn’t be concerned with anything I’d be happy

You do you though

I agree i feel like he'll want to play a feature role and improve his NFL stock and we don't have that role just laid out for him with the guys we have this year

yeah but hes a dude who signed with an NFL team. none of this makes sense.

the league should blackball these dudes and the college teams should refuse to sign them to end this nonsense

He didn't "sign" a guaranteed multi-year contract with a signing bonus, he had one of those training camp tryout deals.

It's not his fault what the timing of the 5-for-5 legislation was. The NCAA could have easily fixed this by making it retroactive instead, but didn't. Thus everyone had to sue.

There’s 60 + snaps a game . Then there’s injuries. It also allows you to use Blount inside situationally more.

I don’t get the “ starting “nonsense . It’s not about starting, it’s about snaps. There’ll be plenty of snaps for the guys mentioned. Last season we depended way too much on our starting de’s and there was plenty of time both their tongues were dragging in fourth quarters. Which finally caught up to 3 by years end with his health. Most years you can’t walk that razors edge. You can always use a big strong , grown man in the trenches. I’d feel alot better about edge with Pyburn. So would Mario which is why he’s reached out.
