Didn't they run 3-3-5 defense last season? And in that type of defense you play with three DTs so I’m not sure why he went there out of high school.

Tons of teams ask their DL to 2-gap. UGa runs a mint but they do run a 3-4, depending on the Os personnel. They recruit bigger bodies @ DL and coach their interior DL to engage blockers, leaving their LBs to roam. Its not impossible to run but, unless UF hits the portal hard, they dont have the DL to run it

You made my point. UGA can do it. Bama did some under Saban but also ran 4 man fronts. If you want to run a 3-4, go recruit with those two programs. Zero chance UF can do anything close.

They will end up like Miami under Al and No D. Taking slugs in the interior who can’t move or blowing up edge players like Chickillo. Won’t work.

Hmmmm I wonder how Stanford recruited for their 3-4 defense during the Saban years??

Its about development. You can run a 3-4 but youre not finding HS DL that will be able to step in and compete. You have to develop them! We are taking the same approach with our DT commit Sainteus.

UF is a SEC program in the NIL era. They will be able to recruit, when properly motivated. This isnt the Saban years. They'll be fine. The aren't Al Goldens temple. If Golden was at a SEC program, in the NIL era, I think he'd have a bit more success finding the right players for his system. He seemed to make it work at ND 🤷🏿‍♂️

Your initial point was that its 'virtually impossible' to run a 3-4 in CFB. Youre wrong. You wont find any immediate impact players @ DL in HS. But, honestly, there's 1-2 of those type of players (at most) in a recruiting cycle.

They were 13th (7th in SEC). That's not bad but shouldn't break the bank if they want to be relevant. I no longer track this like I used to. But the talent they did land doesn't seem like recruits you pay top dollar for.
 
is it me or do I think the DE's in the portal have been pretty meh? We were first able to sell a dream to Bain being a hometown hero with a ****** program at the time. Now its been pretty difficult to land his replacement. Lowe injury was big cause we do not know what we have yet till we see it. Do really elite DE's even get in the portal? Cause I know programs trying to win aint letting those guys enter the portal. It seems like the more we win the more difficult it has been on the trail, maybe I am crazy.

Running a 3-4 in the new age of cfb with a 1 year roster is a death sentence.

This kid isn’t “meh.”
 
Their are several DE's I am interested in. Woods is one of them. Their are a couple definitely ahead of him for me. I am definitely fighting for that 1st visit for my top 2. That 1st visit is key for everyone you want. You are dropping a lot of money just to get that visit. Crazy stuff these days. Look at Jacobs last night.
 
Imo we need to go for John Henry Daly at Edge. If not him check out J’Mond Tapp character. He’d be #2 imo. We want a 1 yr guy who fits SDE mold. We don’t want a guy that is gunna have a lot of promises and take too many snaps from younger guys. Also if Moten returns and Blount plays more DT the MAJOR need is SDE….Even if we trust Lowe and Scroggins to produce.
