DBC’s source on Blake James

Agree.

We had fans screaming about Danny White coming from UCF to Miami—too blind to admit UCF is a better job—hence why he left for Tennessee.

Miami needs a #2 up and comer from a big program—and the right-fit guy, as the wrong one will use this place like the same stepping stone Hocutt and Eichorst did.
I’m not sure a guy staying for five years and moving on to a bigger role would be that bad, either at the AD or head coach level. That means they are typically doing good work, Eichorst notwithstanding.

This had me rolling

idk if we can do the finding a new hC every five years if they're getting better jobs tbh. I don't think its sustainable to hit on every hire like that obviously. also, I don't think the landscape is built for that.

You need a good AD to pull it off and it does carry more risks, but that was also the model that was most successful for us. We were NFLU for coaches as well as players. I just don't see us having the infrastructure or ability to pay to make this a job for a lifer. Maybe Mario if he came because of his ties to the area.

Manny Senior has not had, and will not have, any impact on this. These people don’t understand that. They think a semi-retired lawyer, ex Miami mayor, whose name is associated with a mid-tier law firm (he’s NOT even a partner) and who is in a party ceremonial position, now has some kind of Rasputin type hold on the BOT. It’s all nonsense. Nobody that has football influence on the BOT gives a fūck about Manny Senior.

Strawley, is just some weird whipping woman that this site has. She does nothing and sets no policy and has no influence on the football program.

Blake is 100% in charge, and she’s just an operations person. Since most people here don’t have corporate or organizational experience, they probably don’t even know what an operations person is. Suffice it to say they never set policy. She’s literally a nobody. No offense to her, but she has little or nothing to do with the football program, certainly not about determining coaches or direction or any of that. It’s laughable.

The big issue with the BOT and the new AD is getting them to take that next BIG step, a big step to try to get up with the big boys. They both need to find sources of income (boosters) that we currently don’t have. It’s a big job.
Every good story needs a villain with a sidekick and a powerful benefactor.

The only thing Manny Sr.'s status will guarantee is that they will try not to humiliate Manny out of courtesy.

The only influence Senior has he is a Chairman of the Florida Democratic Party, of which he appears to be running like the City of Miami. That may impress the limousine liberal crowd on the board, which there are many, but nearly irrelevant to the football program. May help getting a tee time at La Gorce which for most of them all that really matters.

That’s basically a ceremonial and voting strategy position. Not to get into politics, because that’s not what this is about, but you’re right. Some people may be impressed with this, but it actually means nothing in terms of the BOT and football. He was placed in that position to get more votes from one voting demographic in Miami-Dade county.

It’s just a naïve opinion that he’s some kind of mystical force behind the scenes. He’s not important. Sure he may have some people that he’s friendly with on the BOT, there are a lot of people that are friendly with members of the BOT, that doesn’t mean they have any influence. He just doesn’t have the juice. And I don’t say that to disrespect him, I just say because it’s a fact. Those opinions are simply juvenile, based on really nothing.

Blake hired JR in a lazy act of self indulgence regarding what he thought was a master stroke. He failed. Blake thought he was hiring the next Dabo Swinney, when in fact what he did was hire a Lou Saban type coach.

No. No. No. No.

Can we please stop with the 'we HAVE to hire an established AD from a football school' crap. I'm completely fine if we go out and pull a #2 in command like Jeff Purinton from Alabama (has Orange Bowl Committee experience FYI) or a Graham Neff from Clemson, but no big time SEC or Big 10 AD is leaving their post to come to Miami.
To clarify, I didn’t specifically say we need a current acting AD… a deputy AD from a big time program could totally work

We HAVE to get somebody that at least knows what a successfully Athletic Department looks like

If you connect the dots, it sounds like they are putting all of their eggs in the Mario basket. Otherwise there is no way they would be this motivated to move on from Manny and Blake.
The story is that Frenk had his 2 lieutenants look at the athletic department, and they reported back that it was as dysfunctional as Ferman, Lake etc made it sound. He then gave the green light for changes to be made.
