Brian Edwards

Miami is still in close contact with Brian Edwards, who decommitted from the Canes last month. I spoke to a source close to Edwards today who gave me some details on his recruitment. In short, Miami still has a good chance here because of two reasons: 1) Often times the biggest deciding factor in a recruitment is relationships with coaches. Ephraim Banda and Edwards are very close and if he does sign with the Canes, then a lot of credit is owed there. 2) Edwards knows he has a chance to play almost immediately. Canes defensive coaches are selling the Miramar standout on the opportunity to play a cornerback/safety role where he would cover bigger receivers as a corner and also be asked to play as a free safety -- remember both safeties in the class right now, Amari Carter and Billy Gibson, excel in run support at this point of their careers. Edwards has more of a coverage skill set with his length and smooth hips for his size.

So why did he decommit in the first place? The answer is simple and what you'd expect -- attention. He felt that his commitment was limiting he attention that other schools were giving him. The program that has made a move with Edwards is Louisville. They are desperately trying to get him up there for an official visit, but he has not set anything up just yet. He will probably take that Louisville visit, but the good news for Miami is that Edwards will take his official visit down to Coral Gables as well.

UF told Edwards that they will offer him if he commits on the spot, which is not something he has been willing to do.

Interesting battle for Mark Richt and his staff as we come down the stretch.

C.J. Henderson

With Henderson's season concluding last week against Coral Gables, he will now fully turn his attention to recruiting. The buzz around Columbus for a couple months has been that Henderson is headed to Gainesville. Every high school teammate of his I asked is positive he's going to Florida as well.

However, Henderson has his official visit to Miami set for the weekend before signing day and he was recently on campus for practice. Canes coaches are convinced that Henderson is not wasting their time and his actions back that up because he is still being extremely receptive to Miami's recruiting efforts.

I'm still predicting UF for Henderson, but the timing of the official visit leaves the door open to a Tracy Howard 2012 scenario.

Antwan Collier

The Southridge do-it-all man has been recruited by Miami for months and although he doesn't have an offer yet, Collier has said before that he would commit on he spot. If Miami misses out on Edwards, the offer could head Collier's way.

Latavious Brini

If Miami wants Brini, he will almost undoubtedly be a Hurricane. With Henderson, Edwards, and maybe even Collier ahead of him on the board, Brini could be in wait-and-see mode for a while. Similarly to Edwards, Miami views Brini as a prospect who could play either as a big corner or as a safety.

**I've also been able to confirm that Canes coaches are on multiple recruits at defensive back who are committed elsewhere, so look for those names to emerge soon. The staff also continues to assess their options of JUCO prospects as well, but nothing is imminent in that department.

Peter Ariz henderson canceled the ov to miami the other day. Said he might take a unofficial instead.

I think we get Edwards back, which would be nice.

I hope we get Henderson back - we need game-breaking speed on the team and we clearly don't have much of it at the moment.

I'd like to see another DB added even if we were to get these two back.

The defensive backfield is clearly a weak point on the team at the moment that needs to be resolved in this class....

Wonder who the guys are commited to other schools because right now it aint looking good at all. I wonder why guys dont see they can play right away. Its crazy the struggles miami is having recruiting cb.

Go ahead and take brini now. You can't teach his size/ speed at the postion. He's better off of raw ability than many of the dbs that will be on the roster next year

When I watch Brini I see Ryan Mayes. I'm not too sure what any of the others in here see. I think y'all just see him as a 4 star

Brini is slow and dont have the hips for corner.

Didn't people say the same **** about Tavarrus McFadden?

Honest question, but I know people were questioning him and now look

Mcfadden is more athletic than brini but he doesnt have great long speed either. People was questioning his toughness too because he was a horrible tackler and didnt want to tackle.

He has a lot of picks this year but still isnt a good tackler and has had struggles in coverage too.
