redshirting across the board is now a thing of the past. Maybe interior lineman are about the only ones you really RS regularly
Reality is you have to find out quickly what you have, how much NIL allocation they are worth moving forward, and also, if you are a playoff caliber team ready to make a real run, you are going to play 15-plus games
That means you need as many bodies as you can get that can play some sort of role
I can see schools such as Weak Florist, Rice, Northwestern, Sun Belt, MAC, MWC, etc where you reach on several prospects every year with the expectation of developing them over 2-3 years and hopefully getting a year or two from them before the big boys snap them up. Those schools have no expectations of playing more than 12 games. They just need 6-7 wins for any bowl game. The problems with some of these schools is that they've done too good of a job of developing these under recruited players. Case in point Boise State. So you may as well get them on the field ASAP.
