redshirting across the board is now a thing of the past. Maybe interior lineman are about the only ones you really RS regularly

Reality is you have to find out quickly what you have, how much NIL allocation they are worth moving forward, and also, if you are a playoff caliber team ready to make a real run, you are going to play 15-plus games

That means you need as many bodies as you can get that can play some sort of role

I can see schools such as Weak Florist, Rice, Northwestern, Sun Belt, MAC, MWC, etc where you reach on several prospects every year with the expectation of developing them over 2-3 years and hopefully getting a year or two from them before the big boys snap them up. Those schools have no expectations of playing more than 12 games. They just need 6-7 wins for any bowl game. The problems with some of these schools is that they've done too good of a job of developing these under recruited players. Case in point Boise State. So you may as well get them on the field ASAP.

Yeah, and tbf over the last few years we have had 4-5 guys returning to play every OL spot except C who are pretty good+. So, I think the recruiting strategy of taking more projects (vs taking higher rated more expensive HS OL who would have also sit on the bench and been more likely to transfer) was defensible, but you gotta hit on one or two or it makes no sense to keep doing it.

We have been really fortunate that the worst OL injury we have suffered amongst our starters + swing OL the last couple of years was Rivers last year. Had any of those projects been forced to play meaningful snaps the past couple of years, am not confident we would have been thrilled with the results.

This is why this doesn't make sense. Especially sine he actually got snaps over all our other projects this year when we have what now seems like 2 DTs leaving in Blay and Moten...

I mean I guess Blount going full time to DT would be a wash with Moten leaving. But still. He legit could have earned DT4 over Jones who has proven nothing. I'm guessing he saw the size of our DT class incoming and didn't think he'd win a job I guess... idk. But like he's also clearly going down a level, aint no way he's getting an opportunity at an equal program.

Maybe he'll go to like FSU at best...

I always felt this was a political take.

Feeder school HS player that was super productive. If you don't take them locals might hold it against the program. Take him, it doesnt cost much of anything other than a roster spot, and if it pans out- awesome. If it doesn't work out, help him land at SMU or FIU and keep the locals happy.

You’re not wrong. I feel a certain way about that whole situation where Miami was always held to a different standard than other schools. We take players and projects from our “pipelines” but magically when a 5 star player pops up at those schools they go everywhere but Miami.

Again we are in position of power now in my opinion, which is why I pound the table to recruit nationally and not get caught in the rat race of sfl highschool football.

We’ve shown the product now so if they negative recruit we have no problem shifting through that bull**** unlike prior staffs

That’s not exclusive to us sadly. Hypothetical because I can’t think of a current example but imagine a wake Forrest where demond Claiborne says **** it I’m out but thanks for letting me develop on your time.

The days of guys willingly being long-term projects who are solid, reliable depth pieces and being consummate 'program guys' are basically over, it seems..

Either they get processed out, as they get recruited over, or they seek NIL opportunities elsewhere as they want to make a few bucks before their playing days come to a conclusion as the end of their college career

It is what it is.

But the thing is, this doesn't seem to be a player we'd actively push out, so...

Moten is the model of how this process can work if the players and program are on the same page. Also, the player has to have requisite tools to begin with. Traits matter...

The part about threads was about Russell. I wish him well. The snark about the portal really was CIS-centric. Mario adapted to portal usage faster than his CIS-bros did, but some were so dead set early on. Keep stacking.
