Gray's screen notwithstanding...I buy what he's saying about Olsen. He just doesn't impress me at all. Kid has major accuracy issues.

TBH, Olsen wasn't that good in the Under Amour All American Game. I remember being pumped to see this "elite" qb play and he struggled quite a bit in that game and I went away feeling less than impressed w/ him.

in his defense none of the other qbs on his team were any good either. now i noticed in the videos and even in person at the scrimmage that there is something funky about his throwing motion. its like he has difficulty throwing in pads.

Redshirt Brad, let him learn the O and tear it up next year.

Ideally Olsen would have taken the bull by the horns, but unfortunately he hasn't. As has been stated there's a very good chance he transfers elsewhere if Kaaya is as good as advertised.

Yep. Absolutely. No coach wants to throw a true Frosh in the first game as a starter at QB. **** Im not sure Kaaya wants that kind of pressure right out of the gate. Almost any coach worth his salt will try to bring a young QB like that in gradually. Ive said it from the beginning. Barring a total disaster from Heaps, he is going to start the first game. Unless RW is able to go. Kaaya may see meaningful minutes very early on, but I cant see him starting a game until at least a few games into the season, after they see how he handles a real game pressure situation. I just don't think most coaches will throw a true Frosh out there that fast unless they have no other choice.

Id like Heaps to be serviceable, and allow us to work Kaaya in, until he's comfortable, then let him run with it once we know he's got his legs solidly under him.

These guys see one 6 second clip and judge the entire season and practice on that. They know nothing but what they learn from playing Madden

Not really. Its not a few clips. It was last season too. McDermott was the weakest link on that line. He was getting his @ss beat almost every week.

The other thing I'm scared about if Kaaya wins it, is that they'll put the leash on him and water down the offense.

I'm not scared of that. That has more to do with Kaaya than it does the circumstances that will surround him and judging from what I've seen of him from his recruitment to his time in Coral Gables, he seems to have a certain level of fortitude.

In short...he don't look like he scared
 
The issue with the heaps starting situation is everybody from what i seen has said kaaya has looked better.

A guy name ryan bartow who works with 247 i believe said kaaya has showed much more and has been the most impressive of all the qbs.

If he continues to be the best he has to start. I just think heaps will throw a lot of picks.

i'm not crowning the dude yet like a lot of you guys, but there are 3 things that stand out from that 6 second clip. one, he sells the play action play better than Stemo did in 4 years here, he looks off the defense with a quick look to the left and then he throws the ball sharply with accuracy and with proper pace. he sure looks the part in those 6 seconds.

One of the things Rudy Carpenter spent a lot of time with Brad during their sessions was play-action from under center. He's very comfortable with this particular play...

I agree...saying a QB gets traumatized is a hindsight thing...it's only brought up in regards to the ones that go on to fail.

Meanwhile...it's not like Johnny Manziel is the first human being to start and have success as a freshman and then go on to have a good career. The fact of the matter is you either have it or you don't....or you figure it out later. I don't buy the "so and so was ruined by early failure". He was ruined because he was simply never destined to be a good player.

The more I see of the kid the more I think he should start out of the gate. He stands tall in the pocket and actually looks off the guy he intends to throw to. That right there is already light years away from what we had in our last 3-4 quarterbacks.

Golden has no loyalty to Heaps - he's gone after this season.

If Kaaya is the best QB he'll start him - but he's going to have to be clearly the best starter to do that.

Kyle Wright wasn't "traumatized," he just sucked. The guy started getting sacked uncontrollably from the second he stepped on the field, even when he had a good OL in front of him. He was pure garbage. If you're a mentally tough QB, facing some tough defenses as a freshman isn't going to scare you. It's going to make you better.

Golden maybe loyal to a fault with homeboy, but he's not stupid. And if the competition is close, Kaaya will be named the starter. It gives Golden way more room for error this year if he has a true freshman starting at QB..
