Dawson is what prevented us from a title. We probably need a new OC

Blocked punt and WR that don't really separate imo was why we lost the title

But man we whooped that team (which is probably the best in the land) in the 2h

Yep, they were just crashing inside all game.

A few outside zone / stretch plays to Pringle would have popped big I think.
That's the crazier part! Marty is the one who routinely will cut outside. We had so many ways to mix this up. Revisionist thinking tho. It is what it is.

Dawson was awful in the first half . There’s no denying that. But he put us in position to win. Too many paper cuts to ourselves , our flaws did us in
Agree. Too many paper cuts and our flaws did do us in.

That said, Offense and Defense were +1 against IU. Where we lost was Special Teams where we were -10

How about based on the other Playoff games? Or the SMU game? Or the Louisville game?

He pulled his head out of his **** down the stretch in November / December, then crawled right back up it for the Playoffs.

Our D played lights out for a month to keep us in games - just long enough for the O to finally start moving the ball and scoring points in the 4Q.
Going back to the Stanford game miami scored a whopping 23 total offensive points in the 1st quarter. Thats 10 ******* games.

Dawson clearly has an issue prepping and getting his offense ready to start games.

Would I have preferred Miami went tempo earlier? YES.

Would I have preferred that Miami went with more outside runs? YES

Is this loss on Dawson? Nope.

Miami gave IU 10 points with special teams crap. The last time I checked, Dawson isn't the special teams OC. Miami with just COMPETENT special teams wins this game. COMPETENT. The ST coach should be prepping his resume, because this kind of failure is unacceptable in any context.
I agree with all of your points, but it was a combination of **** POOR PLAYCALLING by in the 1st half by Heatherman & Dawson…We can’t play our corners off their AVERAGE WR’s for an entire half because that doesn’t give our DLINE a chance to get home(2nd half we played more man & voila, we start getting more pressure & sacks on Mendoza—as opposed to just letting the heisman trophy winner just play pitch & catch!)…Dawson was just AWFUL with da play calling in da 1st half….I mean how do you go AN ENTIRE HALF WITH UNDER 70 yards of offense in THIS GAME WITH OUR ATHLETES & TALENT????

Even with his faults, Shannon Dawson is by far the best oc Miami has had in over 20 years. And no don’t say lashlee because he never had a run game.

It’s funny how yall get on Dawson but not hetherman(who is elite) by still running that soft coverage which we have shown in multiple games is an Achilles heel for us

Also.. ND killed us with QB draw and IU got us with the same play.

This is what frustrates me more than anything with Dawson. He just doesn’t have a good feel for in-game flow, especially when it comes to sticking with the run. We’ll run the ball and pick up two yards, and instead of staying patient, he immediately abandons it. Run it again. If you get three more yards, now you’re in third and five. That’s a manageable down where the defense actually has to respect both the run and the pass.

Instead, what we keep seeing is a two-yard run followed by some forced pass or gimmick play, and now we’re sitting in third and eight or third and nine. That puts the offense behind the chains and makes everything harder than it needs to be. It’s not about being flashy, it’s about staying on schedule. That lack of in-game management is a big reason why I’m starting to think it might be time to move on at OC.

Agreed.

Running an offensive drive is like writing a two page short story. Dawson's offense is like a dictionary. Lots of words but no structured sentences or paragraphs.

IDC what anyone says, Mario Hubris of running up the middle when there is nothing there is going to handicap any OC who doesnt think like that..

This is a Miami thing. As far back as I can remember we've had an issue with Qbs running straight up the middle. OSU doesnt sniff that 2002 NC** if Krentzel didn't gash us up the middle on all those third downs.

Agreed. However, it'd be nice if we had a head coach who could address this instead of being a spectator on game day.

Last year we had the #1 offense in the country and this year were a drive away from the National Championship Win.

The Question is do you think that Ceiling is too low?
We were a drive away from a championship because of our defense. Our playoff run was completely on the back of our defense. I don’t think he is a bad OC but If I were Mario I am looking for a new OC

Listen I like Beck but him not being able to throw a deep ball is handcuffing Dawson.

I was dumping on Beck quite a bit but on second thought I think I am being unfair. Pretty sure he had a concussion at the end. Hes been a good game manager the entire playoff and it put us in a position to win the championship on the last drive. I guess I just wish Miami followed the script of the playoffs and put the ball in Fletchers hands. My gut feeling is he would have picked up a lot of yards on the perimeter and they wouldn’t be able to keep him from getting out of bounds to stop the clock.

Beck did not have ability to hit some of the deeper routes. He just didn’t have the zip or anticipation. If Mensah can give us 75% Ward and Dawson can give us playoff rushing attack with the outside zones, we will cook. The same OC that got us the #1 offense last year is the same one that got us to the championship this year. He’s not perfect, but he has the ability

Dawson has his flaws but he did an amazing job with Beck, somehow trying to hide Beck's faults and finding ways to get us to this point. Beck can't throw deep nor can he read zone defenses. We made it this deep into the CFP despite Beck flaws because of our superior defense and the ground game. Dawson finding ways to get Toney more touches to turning to a ground game that wasn't really known until College Station once defenses took Toney away.

Beck doesn't trust his eyes or his arm and therefore he tends to throw the ball late or makes a haste decisions to just dump the ball off. He panic's when he doesn't have any need to. We became one dimensional and eventually someone is going to force you to throw in long situations with a QB that doesn't trust what he sees. Beck should've never thrown that pass we had plenty of time.

I do believe with Mensah, Dawson will have this offense humming again like it was with Cam and with way more weapons.
