Dawson is ultimately Cheeks.

Oh, if that was the only complaint we're seeing here. You, yourself, are quoted as expecting "relentless for four quarters".
Correct. Because you see, football consists of 60 minutes of game clock, broken down into two halves. Which are then split in half again into what you call a quarter (15 minutes a piece).

The first half is comprised of the 1st quarter (1 of 4), and the 2nd quarter (2 of the 4). In order to be relentless for all 4 quarters, you have to do so in the first & second quarter (first half), not just the 2nd half (quarter 3 & 4).

Scoring zero points in the first half cannot happen. Kinda hinders playing a complete game against a quality opponent.

We won 3 of those 4 games. Let's not that statistic slip by unnoticed. Winning is the goal, is it not?
Of course winning is the goal. Averaging 6 points per first half (two 0’fers included) in those 4 games is not a good bet to win though is it?

Averaging less than a touchdown in a half to set the tone for a game is kinda sorta no ****** bueno. We won those games in spite of our offensive game planning, not because of it.

Hats off to Dawson for adjusting in second halves and the boys getting it done on those heroic late game winning drives, but we might not need such heroics every game if we are more capable early on.

That's a fair take.
The first half "game plan" looked awful. No argument from me there. All I'm asking for is let's look at the entire body or work - which you did by mentioning second half adjustments.

Side note: I have some lingering PTSD from the OB days when the ship was starting to sink with drunk dummies at post-game tailgates screaming things like 'UNACCEPTABLE!!" and "Fire everyone!" I kinda twitch out (not athletically BTW) when I start thinking about it. Looking back, I should've just punched the dudes in the face.

I watched the SkySam version of the game and I would say Dawson schemed guys open Beck just for some reason could not see them. I’m not a qb and never played one but while watching the SkyCam I found myself saying wtf you throwing it there you had a perfect pocket.

He is.

Sometimes Brilliant play calls,

but mostly random s***.
Ive been one of the bigger Dawson criticizers. My biggest issue is how long he takes to respects when team roll zone coverages and play 2 high safety all game.

He adjusted well after SMU but he loves the vertical offense too much and when its not there he forces it until we absolutely need it.

Hes obsessed with going multiple vertical routes with only one underneath outlet thats easy to bracket and its stagnates the offense.

If you read my Stat Roll threads every week, I said since about Week 3-4 that this was a national championship defense, and I was unsold that the offense could hold up its end of the bargain.

Well.....21 points wasn't good enough. And for those who say it would have without the punt block, because they only scored 20 on offense, we can't play butterfly effect. How different would they have played on offense had they not got the punt block TD? Nobody knows. All I do know is we only scored 21 points, and zero of those were in the first half. That's not good enough. We had some spikes on offense this year, but overall, it wasn't very good against teams with comparable talent. That mostly comes back to the explosives discussion we've had eleventy billion times on here.
We also had a grand total of one explosive player on offense though

Next yrs offense is going to be far closer to how it was with Cam.

Given our absolute abandonment of Te I hope to god we run more 4 wr this yr.

4wr + pistol, I like our run game out of that man…

Right, we need to be “relentless” and score non-stop like……..

Care to finish that for me?

Would be nice if he stays. Too much success the past few yrs. 7-6 10-3 and now 13-3 with him as apart of the staff. Who would we replace him with right now?

He was cooking his first 4 games here but he had TVD roller coaster ride And scored 30 plus points in 7 games his first season with UM.

We see what happened with cam!!! Sure bro ball wasn't applied against Syracuse but dawson had horrific defense that only made his unit play perfect football for 4 quarters no break but halftime and that was all yr not just syracuse.

This yr we get the vet qb with a Vet oline and running game and elite defence, No true complimentary piece for toney.

ultimately it seem like it was the desicions of our qb that ultimately held us so close from the title.

beck will get drafted and start off as a solid back up NFL qb. Add another name for UM nfl ranks. Go canes and go beck.

For sure. I didn’t mean to insinuate I felt it was all Dawson’s fault. I really like Dawson. Just the offense as a whole. It was way too pedestrian at large parts of the year for me to believe we’d really tear up anyone formidable. But I also said all year this was a better overall team because the units were much more balanced.

Give me the #5 defense and #30 offense all day over the #1 offense and #60 defense.

We played complementary football and almost won a **** natty with it.

I am realizing coming to that saying that he's cheeks is overly harsh. But there are definitely times his game calling flow is just off.

But I don't really know who would be a clear better replacement at this point. Or this off season.

I do like who he is as a person.

I wonder if the booth would be better for him like other mentioned or is it he likes to be a hands on coach and direct on the sidelines.

Pretty common on a lot of rewatches for me. I don’t expect Beck to see everything but I expected better from him this year given his experience

One thing I never really heard asked or explained was the insistence on having Bauman out there on 4 WR sets

I know our WRs aren’t much beyond Toney, but Bauman was baffling. He was treated like Elijah Arroyo

I mean. We were getting WHIPPED on plays that would have popped 20+ yards that we should have blocked up. If that’s on Dawson too then everything is.
would you say that if they planned on using those plays they would be comfortable with the way the team was executing them? The individual position coaches would be happy with the way their units could perform? I get that guys make mistakes but it seems to me that too many times the excuse is poor execution. If that is the case, maybe the play calls aren't the best.

IDK. Just an observation from the cheap seats.
