Dawson is fed up with the inside run talk

Not so fast my friend, Butch Davis got substantially worse before he got better

1995 8-3 (1st in the conference)
1996 9-3 (1st in the conference)
1997 5-6 ( no bowl game)
Then he went on to build the greatest roster in CFB history. So if USC gives Lane more time, he could have righted that ship.
Yeah Kiffin was so close at USC that his next HC gig was at FAU 5 years later lol.

He just say he runs outside zone half the time?

Actually gotta take this snarky little comment back. We ran a lot of outside zone in this one, probobly our most effective run play... Fletcher has a nice feel for the cutback.

Kinda makes sense Dawson kinda mini-lost his ****. He ran a lot of OZ, some pin and pull, jet... then you got Gary Ferman or whoever pressing him on toss sweep.

I still think the self soffocating nature of the rungame is more to do with an spacing and tight formations rather than concepts.

Lane was dealing with Pell grant sanctions and secretly limited scholarship reduction?

This thread has morphed into several conversations.

The original topic was our run game.

Bottom line is that whatever we're doing, it's resulted in the 72nd ranked offense in yds/play. That's not good, especially for a program that (a) fully states its DNA is to be a strong rushing team, and (b) has what everyone here and most college football analysts regard as at least a top-10 OL.

In the final analysis i don't care if we run up the middle, to the outside, or through the student section. Coaches have to figure out how to make us better than 72nd in yds/play. That's the question that should have been posed to Dawson.: "Why are we 72nd in the country and how does it get fixed?"

lol sure there are many ways to run into the centers ******* but the point remains he is an average OC with no imagination run or pass design.
Plus we run a ton of duo which is a stupid play call in my opinion at any time in any game

Every coach involved with the offense besides Kevin Beard should be ashamed of themselves.

Beard has done his job.

They are clearly ******** something up to have so few explosive runs with their OL and RB talent level

Solid discussion on the 4th and 1 play call gents. And for a lot of us here is the problem we have.

1. No surprise at all where the ball is going. That DTs only job was to shoot that gap and blow the play up.
2. We all know 52 ain’t the best run blocker and would assume the coaches know too
3. Field conditions/rain means 52 is probably a 1/10 sec slower on his snap?
4. Just looking at the defensive alignment they have 6 stacked up inside of the tackles
5. Knowing all that we decide to run an A gap dive out of the shotgun, don’t give the center any help, and are surprised at the result
This is the type stuff that irritates me. When you don’t account for known deficiencies in important situations.

I wonder how many times @JustAFanHTX (a dude who’s been linked to Dawson since prior to his arrival) has to come on here and share that what we see is not Dawson’s preferred run scheme. Maybe one more time. Even if @JustAFanHTX is completely full of it, many have shown the distinctions between pre-Miami Dawson and right now.

It’s completely possible Dawson is just being a good soldier or professional. What’s he gonna do? This is the same dude who went on and on about his approach to ending the TAMU ‘23 game with a dagger.

Perhaps they’ve ‘all decided’ to play a certain style this season. And, while it may have its place in some situations, it’s a tougher way to string together consistent success.

*Edit to add: waiting on the inevitable fake jet sweep to Mali that ends up in a toss play. So I’m happy when Dawson’s given approval for that one.
What is the example of the elite offense that plays the way they do ?

Sean McVay condensed stuff uses a lot more play action and variety, and elite Air Raid simplicity offenses spread people out and use tempo.

Beard has done his job.
Beard handles rotations. Marion over Moore. Johnson played behind Ray Ray for a few games and finally got targets vs Stanford. Not even going to touch the mess of Carr, Jojo

True but he gets lots of extra credit for Toney. That alone elevates Beards grade from a D to C+. Everyone else coaching (or coordinating ) the offense is a C- or below

Correction- RB hasn’t been terrible so RB coach also has earned his pay. solid B grade.

What are odds first play of SMU game, Beck audibles and the call is "Ferman" and we run toss sweep? Dawson seems petty enough lol. Need to find a way to bet on this
Nope… I’m taking the old dive up the centers ***. Dawson might be petty but he’s not going to bump up those 10+ yard rushes anytime in the near future. 😆

If you told me a team had 20 players drafted from a college team, I’d say they should’ve been pretty decent, not like the greatest but decent. I know where you are going with this though and I’d like to add the 1997 Canes team also had 20 players drafted, with about 8 of them going first round and what was our record that year? Even though it wasn’t in one draft they still had lots of talent on that team. But we didn’t have any depth because of scholarship reductions.
And we always talk about how Butch was a terrible game day coach.

Obviously smarter and more composed than you.

This was an exact play where Fletcher should have went outside on the right, I was there for a lot of yards, but he has tunnel vision.
He's good at it but man he could have gotten 15 on that same play call, I lost my mind that play.

Go Blue Jays
