Neither were screens but my point is, we made 2 HUGE plays in our run throwing to backs. It's allowed. I promise you, Coach. You're allowed to let your backs make plays in the passing game.

We just simply do not run traditional screens to the backs. I really don't know or understand the thought process behind it, but Dawson's screen games are the tunnels like we see Mali run and the one to Daniels that sealed the Taint game (which is actually an awesome design, it's a fake pull screen, the RG pulls left, getting the defense to react, but we actually throw the screen back to the right. Very cool play design).

But yeah, man. Sign me up for getting our backs the ball in space more. We actually did throw a little bit to Martinez in 2024, but those were more check downs than screens. The only screen I remember was against USF and it went for like 40 yards, but even then that wasn't a very traditional play.

I've been calling for 21 personnel for 3 years, put 2 good backs on the field, give the defense eye-candy with the run to one of them (traditional play-action, fake pitch, run one in fast motion to the boundary) and throw a screen to the other one. You've got athletic linemen, use them in space with the backs like we do with the WRs.
 
Just wait until we flip that TE room. Then we can fulfill Mario’s wet dream and run what Seattle did last year with 3 TE’s and then we only need Mali out wide lol

This is absolutely spot on.
Dawson's A&M gameplan was horrible. And he admitted that it was Beck, not him that told him to run the ball.
I do think Beck's inaccuracy really hurt this team at times. Even when he completed it balls downfield they were poorly thrown and didn't allow for YAC.
This year will be truly interesting because I don't think we can run duo as effectively as we did last year. The personnel lends to more 10 sets because of our abundance of WRs and lack of TEs. This years offense should be more true air raid IMO. Can we protect Mensah consistently is my only question to see what Dawson's got in his AR bag
 
Shannon will have everything at his disposal this year w Mensah
Short intermediate and deep passing is all available
Running game will be more Pistol formation- should be (when I spoke w him I emphasized how that opened up run game, Fletcher and co were going downhill and it provided variety)

I expect huge season from O, Shannon just needs to not outthink himself and get too cute

Yeah, I am not sure what that was attempting to prove. Our gameplan in the first half of Indiana was terrible. They had no answer when both Fletcher and Toney were a threat, and that can be accomplished with simple alignment. He wasted a full half of football to squeeze their pressure points.
 
Without going into to detail, dawson needs to call games from the booth. I dont think he see's the game good enough top call it from the sidelines. Either that or the people in the booth are trash. Regardless, he needs to get in the booth.

Then there's the game where he had the nerve to feature the worst player I've ever seen at Miami for an entire series twice one of which resulted in a turnover.

I would be very curious to understand this data a little better because a 2 yard reception with 30 yard run is totally different than a fly route over the top for 40 yards…. Toney was unreal in the screen game….Beck had a deep shot here or there but that was NOT the norm
 
Inside zone!!!!!!! No pitches, no outside zone, no traps!!!!


Now with all that said, when the talent outside is what it should be (2026), they can run 4-5 plays and win every game. This team will win it all if the OL and DL play at that level and our key players stay upright.

He is the QB coach. He needs to be down there on the field
 
While we're breaking out our wish Dawson would do this type stuff.. I just want to remind him that TEs can do more than just block.

Right. Outside of the Cam/Arroyo year, TE usage has been non-existent in the passing game. I think Arroyo was forced/schemed in due to the nature of his ability and it would have been criminal not to get him involved. This is the case (for me) until proven otherwise..

Not unless we return to a Lance Guidry defensive output. SMH.

I believe the plan and what was sold to Lyle, Briwn, and Pringle to all return is to jump out early and then play bully ball RPO with the 4 backs and allow Mensah to run or pass if the defense overextends.

Think the offense will be pretty vanilla until Clemson.
 
Dawson cracks me up sometimes. He does random stuff once and completely abandons it. Obviously in game things happen.

I remember during one of the playoff games the very first play had Bauman (I think) lined up almost directly behind the center for a run play. The PBP guy mentioned the formation.

Never saw anything like it again.
