2027 David Folorunsho 5* DT From Chicago, IL (St. Patrick HS)

I think if they feel they have an issue with DTs, they are gonna do like they did and just go after 15 or so. They will simply throw bags and bags at it, both high school and the portal.

They had a problem with CBs and DBs in 2024, they used 1 offseason and brought in 5 or 6 out the portal alone.
I agree but gotta consider that fixing your secondary and DT situation are two different things. One is more scarce than the other.

no it wouldnt because at the end of the day...if their are hs misses we are portal gawds...which can always supplement dt play with certified grown men which we have been doing
We haven't landed a single portal DT that's gotten drafted. High-quality portal DTs are extremely hard to come by and carry a stupidly high price tag. It's far harder than you're making it seem to plug that gap in the portal.
Our best DT last year was a 3 star kid who took off under D Lew/ Heatherman. We need top end talent no doubt but the panic button shouldn’t be pushed yet.

Bear Alexander was a couple years prior and he has SUCKED more than Abella Danger's fluffers.

With portal, NIL, recruiting etc there isn’t a single program happy with their DL recruiting

Even if you do land a prospect you gotta keep him and/or hope it pans out. Cant imagine the battle for Scott in high school but also keeping him at Miami this year

We need to go back and revisit the year we got Scott

There was an absurd amount of 5 stars. Need to check back and see how that’s all playing out. I know Stone for example is a beast which is a surprise to absolutely no one, but there were a ton of “whales” that year but it was a total anomaly
LJ McCray
J Scott
David Stone
Dominick McKinley
Bryce Young

^ all five stars accordng to 247
Then...

Aydin Breland
Armondo Blount (could be considered Edge, but listed as DT on 247)
Nasir Johnson
Joseph Jonah-Ajonye
Kameryn Crawford
Charlie Collins
Jordan Thomas
Dealyn Evans
Will Echoles
Jericho Johnson
Brian Robinson

^ This completes the Top 100.

16 DTs in the top 100. That is an absurdly high number.
We ended up with 2 of the 16 and were in it for LJ McCray and David Stone.

This year's class - across the board - is nothing like 2024

If they are effective here could careless about the NFL draft. Simeon Barrow while not being Draft pick stood out on a Defense that had atrocious DB play and Blay wasnt exactly a dud either

They are similarly hard to get. Before last season we were crying about how hard it was to get elite CBs and before that it was elite WRs. I remember.

Also the players they brought in to fix the secondary were not these 5 star players out high school. People were even questioning some of the pick ups. 2 of which got drafted.

There was a few others maybe not 5 stars but close

Breland? Kid went to Oregon I think. There was another dude from Mississippi I think was close to committing to us. Kam Franklin?

I could just look it up and not be a lazy **** I suppose

DMoney made the good point on today’s pod that Moten wasn’t accurately rated as a 3 star and should’ve been a 4 star (was due to his junior season and he performed much better senior year), and that his offer list reflected that (Miami, Oklahoma, Oregon, UF, etc.). So that’s more a case of a player not being rated accurately than a situation where we evaluated and developed a 3 star that nobody else was in on.

It was alot wasnt it? I remember Franklin making some plays against us in the playoffs too. I really wanted that kid here but Ole Miss up the bag.

I remember Kam Franklin. I probably glossed over his name or maybe he was listed as an Edge. I could go back and look it up, but I prefer being a lazy ****. :)

Who recruiting him doesn't change his rating. They didnt rate Bain accurately either and the big boys were after him. What about Toney? They do it all the time. That's why staff evaluation is important.

When we started recruiting AJ Randle this cycle as a LB he was a 89 rated player and ranked #324

He is now a top 100 player and almost a 96 rating.

According to 247 composite there has been 19 total 5 star DTs since 2023 class. In that time, on 13 teams have signed a 5 star DT. Georgia signed 3, Miami signed 2, Clemson signed 2, and LSU signed 2, no one else signed more than 1.

2023 5star DTs, 4

James Smith, Alabama
Peter Woods, Clemson
Jordan Hall, Georgia

2024 5star DTs, 8
Williams Nwaneri, Missouri
David Stone, Oklahoma
Justin Scott, Miami
Dominick McKinley, LSU
LJ McCray, Florida
Joseph Jonah-Ajonye, Georgia
Eddrick Houston, Ohio State
Armondo Blount, Miami

2025 5star DTs 3
Elijah Griffin, Georgia
Justus Terry, Texas
Amare Adams, Clemson

2026 5star DTs, 2
Richard Anderson, LSU
Jaimeon Winfield, USC

2027 5star DTs, 2

That's your opinion. My opinion is that I want day 1 and day 2 picks at DT, not undrafted free agents. That raises the floor and ceiling of a team. We just disagree.

Yeah that summer was a pretty unforgettable time to be a Miami fan in recruiting

The Whale Watching. The optimism and hope only to be crushed repeatedly

Then we flipped Scott at the last second

There’s people that remember to let it play out and then there’s people that just wake up in the morning and **** their pants when the sun comes up

Our fans have amnesia. We had a period of freak out of cant sign elite WRs, then it was elite CBs. Now its DTs. I think when Heatherman came in they found precise characteristics to recruit to regardless of ratings. U can see it at LB and DL.

People said Mario was a QB killer that’s a Rushmore one

Yup, and married to bro style offense. Now we got Lincoln Riley telling WRs he wanna use them like Miami uses Malachi Toney. After he was the emblem of offensive genius for many.

Cant forget the total freak out about QB's. Some legit to be fair.

Point is whatever issue we have the staff already sees it and usually address it appropriately.
