2027 David "DJ" Jacobs 5* DE from Roswell, GA (Blessed Trinity Catholic) Commits to OSU 2.0

Yea man but even you have to throw in that caveat about we are positioned to do this or that. It's a qualifier that isn't even on the radar for the competitor. Positioned to have a great run is every single season for them. I agree about the pure football and development side of it. There's no argument for that; Miami develops trench talent at an elite level and that's irrefutable. if winning maters just as much as development to DJ then we still have a little to prove.

My only point continues to be that we need one more year of legit winning, just one more cycle of Miami recruits to become the definition of professional violence. Blount Lightfoot Moten Scott Davis Cantwell Samson Buchannon all these trench bullies need to kick the **** out of the ACC and then the "P2" and the Miami rep is in cement until Mario leaves. Perception is reality and as hot as Miami is right now, we are not immune to a swift fall from grace.

Mario needs 11 wins in the regular season, an ACC title, and a playoff win. He does that and Miami is locked in and even if there's a step back starting a young QB next season, there won't be any questions about the program's status. Miami would be viewed exactly like OSU and instead of questioning Mario, everyone would give him a pass for starting a new young QB just like they did with Ryan Day and Julian Sayin.
Agreed with the last paragraph but for the time being perception is reality, and perception is that we will win and until proven otherwise that is how everyone is moving. The question, is Miami back has been answered: the program, the media and we as fans are operating as such until something changes. I know all to well how this can go but for the first time in a long time we are on the right side of the fence here.

I think we are past the above "whatever it takes" nonsense. I do appreciate your passion, but is this guy really so special to have to go to these length's? We are going to have multiple 5 stars and athletic lab creatures competing for 2 edge spots over the next several years going forward. Bag him up, sure. But we don't need to promise him the keys to the city if his heart is not set on being a Cane by now.
I know he was sort of joking but one of the dumbest things you continually read here is how we should just throw whatever money it takes at a player

Yeah sure sounds good

Then you remember there’s a whole team of blue chip recruits and players who have proven themselves for years sometimes that will also know how much a high school kid is being paid, so then you’re going to have to make them happy as well

If I’m Armando Blount and I hear you’re paying DJ Jacobs 1mil per year (hypothetically) well my agent will be in touch

You're exactly right. It's a terrible strategy and it amazes me that people don't understand the risks.

The whole thing reminds me of what happened with the NFL before they implemented the rookie wage scale. Every year rookies wanted to get paid more than the guys drafted the year before. By the time they agreed to the rookie wage scale, Sam Bradford had signed for the most guaranteed money in NFL history AS A ROOKIE!

Imagine what would have happened if players could renegotiate as free agents after every season. Because that's pretty much where we're at with college football.

Yeah I think the roster pay management is what every school is trying to figure out. Just like the rookie NFL example you gave.

I suppose it’s just like any work environment/office setting you find out the useless ******* in the cubicle next to you makes more money than you…just creates problems

I don’t know a ton about our NIL department but have some light knowledge of a few other programs and we really seem to be doing an awesome job in general. Spending big money but also not just ****ing it away like we won the lottery. Clearly have some very good business minds involved here

You have to think a portion of CFP payout we received last year is helping our recruiting budget. I know coaches got raises, etc..., but that was north of $30M

If we can repeat that this year that is insane budget on top of everything else we are doing

Lane kiffin was taking about this recently.. having a pay scale for rookies/freshman and such..

Amen man.

This **** is ridiculous anymore.

We no longer have to pay the suck tax. You get to play for a national title contender at a school with great academics, in the city of Miami, in a no income tax state, get coached by one of the best pass rushers in NFL history, at a program that even in down years produced mutiple 1st rounders at DE, play opposite an elite DE so your sack numbers will get national attention, AND receive a generous NIL package.

Warren Buffett had an ironclad rule for buying companies. He would NEVER make a lowball initial offer. He said he respected the work that others put into making a company so successful that he wanted to buy it, and wasn’t going to insult them by trying to nickel and dime. He would make only ONE offer- an absolutely fair offer that made the owners of the targeted company far wealthier than they ever dreamed. If the owners declined his offer and tried to negotiate he would walk away and that was the end of the proposed deal. There were going to be other companies down the road that would also interest him and he didn’t want to set a precedent that he was going to go back and forth trying to convince a company to accept his very fair terms. I think this is where Miami is right now.

the difference between the nfl and the CFB NIL is in the nfl, every time a big contract "resets the market" that only applies to big time players and only when they're due a new contract..

in CFB if you let a HS kid "reset the market" then it resets the contract for every player on the roster since there are no long term contracts in place and the kid in HS is the least proven player....

“But the likes of Miami and Tennessee haven’t given up recruiting Jacobs and also remain heavy on his younger brother, Rivals300 2028 defensive lineman Dawson Jacobs.

While the Hurricanes were a front-runner for Jacobs during his initial process, the buzz has been picking up regarding the Vols trying to make a run at Jacobs heading into the season.

“They’re trying to make a push but nothing serious,” Jacobs father told Rivals. “My old coach, Coach (Rodney) Garner.”

“Ohio State were trying to go up there and get the gist of everything,” the elder Jacobs said. “Take a couple trips up there.”

Following the last trip to Ohio State, Jacobs father talked about what stood out.

“Man, we had a great time,” Jacobs’ father said. “We had a great time over there. It felt good.

Jacobs father reiterated on Monday that he believes his son is strongly tracking to sign at Ohio State.

“As of today yes but you know how this stuff goes,” he said.

Kid will be on campus at some point before he signs. They clearly aren’t shut all the way down and Pops knows how to talk/play the game.

Last quote from the old man is literally poetry.

Had about enough of this dude and his bs. Before the Cotton Bowl choosing the Taints, with that stupid look on his face. I think Jayvon Dawson is actually a 5 star. Forget this corny dude and his brother can also kick rocks. I would rather give his bag to Sears and Ghioto next year.

I'm glad Mario doesn't approach recruiting the way you would.

I agree with the bolded.

Yea OSU bunch of three star scrubs and never recruit well...

Let’s not kid ourselves. Sounds like one of the lies we told during the Grolden era.
Name a team with a better dl and de than Miami ? We’re loaded at de to add Bryant too the mix too . We need another big time DT not De imo . Diffence in golden era we wasn’t loaded, they could have came right in and started . Prob. The best dl Miami under Mario compared prob the worse dl under Al golden . Let’s not talk about schemes
