I disagree. All these top recruits no each other from camps. And they know who is good the year before and after them. Jacobs knows about Lightfoot, Lowe, Bryant and Wilson. He might not know Scroggins or Picket, but he knows the 5 stars and future NFL players.
And even more so, his parents know and they are involved in his recruitment.

I think you are not giving today’s athlete enough credit. They may not watch the games as we do, but they know the rosters and make decisions, in part, based on the rosters.

If he dosent come to UM he is afraid of the competition
 
Could Mario just be waiting until right before or on NSD to flip him knowing the money he is going to want or get paid may cause problems with some of the other guys….just a thought.

And sees an administration behind the program that is determined to make it happen.

So yes I agree with you if your point is that stupid people exist. But i could not disagree more if your point is that an objectively intelligent person could believe that UM’s credibility is tenuous.

If the commitee says **** it we are putting in Notre Dame this board is a war zone right now and the mopes wouldnt be wrong because obviosuly the team was too good to lose both of those games last season.

If we somehow miss the playoffs this season with this stacked roster its a major setback for Mario. Last years playoff run did a lot for the perception of the program. This year is when we need to cement it. Thats what I'd call tenuous. We are in a situation where even a good season isnt good enough because of what Mario has built. He doesnt have to win it all but hes gotta avoid the let down. We cant lose to Clemson and ND on the road and we cant slip up anywhere else if we do drop one of those games or we risk missing the ACCCG and the playoffs entirely.

I completely agree that Mario has built the machine. The work never stops but the foundation is set, the expectations are real. It's just still early and it wouldnt shock me if an uber elite recruit that was comitted to the best or second best rated program in the country wanted to see it all one more time before pulling the trigger for the good guys.

I’d say I’m a mope. You are ultimately judged on results and while you are 100% correct that last season we just skirted disaster we did in fact skirt it all the way to being 40 yards away from a chip. What could have happened doesn’t matter, just what did.

Back to back double digits win seaons and stacked roster going into this year plus a monster recruiting class says that anyone unsure of Miami at the moment is just full of ****.

We are objectively one of the hottest programs in the country, with argument saying we are in fact the team. Let’s see what we do with it, but saying they aren’t sold on Miami just doesn’t track.

Add in the Bain/ Mesi development and subsequent results.

If he aint seen enough already he never will....

Not sold on Miami just means Miami hasn’t offered enough to buy his services, yet.

Which won’t happen until Miami is sold on him.

I think everyone believes. I surely do. But I have zero skin in the game. Same with pundits and people talking on the net. But DJ is the one on the field.This decision is real for him and 2 years of good will versus 25 is a huge difference. I am not in any way trying to justify why he is making the right decision to stick. I am just considering why he would stick. I think we are trending up and I believe we are going to put it all together but thats me wanting that to happen and being a fan. Take of the orange and green shades and you can see it from a pessimist and negative recruiting POV. Thats all Im saying. If I was trying to beat out Miami in this recruitment this would be the argument.

1. Sustained success 2 vs 25 years
2. Questionable performance in conference with big talent advantage, borderline playoff team last two years with a nice run in one of em and a miss with a 1.1 QB. Yes that staff will develop you but you may not win **** while you are there.

I without a doubt think Miami is on the same level as OU A&M Texas Oregon regardless of argument. Any of those teams wouldnt be able to say **** to a recruit about why they are better. But we are talking about comparing what we have done for two years to OSU. I Don-t like it but they have been top of the heap next to Bama and UGA for 10+ years and really have only had one bad season in 25. Clemson fell of quick, so did LSU. Its a different level of consistency for a player who presumably wants to be in the title convo all 3 years he is here.

I dont wear orange and green shades: Ive been very critical of the program through out my time on this site. In the aggregate 25 vs 2 matters and its definitely something Taint is using against us, but we arent talking about Taint we are talking about DJ. This kid is only 17, and Miami being good for 2 going on 3 years holds a ton more weight for him than say a 40 year old, and based on the info we are getting the 40 year olds in his life wanted him at Miami. Trajectory and what have you done for me lately matters most to these kids at that age. Now you still have to show them that, and we have in spades. Case in point look no further than OU and Oregon: they beat teams like Taint all the time on the recruiting front and they also havent won **** in comparison historically but the recruits dont care because they see recent results(and money).

The other part that matters is that its not really program v program, its all about the staff. Look no further than the fact that we are historically TEU but under this staff that position just hasnt exactly been treated as any sort of priority. In the meantime, you would be hard pressed to find a program with as much cachet at the edge position as Miami. I think with Larry Johnson, Taint does as well but any narrative that an edge shouldnt go to Miami should fall flat. That goes for the overall team as well right now. We beat them and are positioned to make another run this year and recruiting says for multiple years to come.

Yea man but even you have to throw in that caveat about we are positioned to do this or that. It's a qualifier that isn't even on the radar for the competitor. Positioned to have a great run is every single season for them. I agree about the pure football and development side of it. There's no argument for that; Miami develops trench talent at an elite level and that's irrefutable. if winning maters just as much as development to DJ then we still have a little to prove.

My only point continues to be that we need one more year of legit winning, just one more cycle of Miami recruits to become the definition of professional violence. Blount Lightfoot Moten Scott Davis Cantwell Samson Buchannon all these trench bullies need to kick the **** out of the ACC and then the "P2" and the Miami rep is in cement until Mario leaves. Perception is reality and as hot as Miami is right now, we are not immune to a swift fall from grace.

Mario needs 11 wins in the regular season, an ACC title, and a playoff win. He does that and Miami is locked in and even if there's a step back starting a young QB next season, there won't be any questions about the program's status. Miami would be viewed exactly like OSU and instead of questioning Mario, everyone would give him a pass for starting a new young QB just like they did with Ryan Day and Julian Sayin.

I think we are past the above "whatever it takes" nonsense. I do appreciate your passion, but is this guy really so special to have to go to these length's? We are going to have multiple 5 stars and athletic lab creatures competing for 2 edge spots over the next several years going forward. Bag him up, sure. But we don't need to promise him the keys to the city if his heart is not set on being a Cane by now.
