Darian Mensah received a deal from Duke that is believed to pay him $8 million over two years

He's played 1 defense in the SP+ top 50…Only Clemson at 42. UM has faced 4 in the top 30 and 5 better than Clemson because SMU is 40th

Can we take Beck's stats against Sofla, Stan, BC only or nah? **** let's throw FSU and SMU (30 and 40) and we'll say they are in the same ballpark as Clemson. And then compare.

But yeah I'll give ya some credit, kid looks good…But has to be taken in context. Duke's schedule of opposing defenses is a joke. Make sure you relay that to @cway313 as well

If you take only the stats from USF, BCU, Stanford and SMU and put it on 8 games he would be:

2140 yards 16tds 8ints 77%

Still trash compared to Mensah…

He wouldn't have 8 ints in this games you absolute moron

He threw 4 against Lousiville

Add it up again Galileo

I mean the kid is working out and I'll tip my cap he's a little better than I thought…But he also takes a **** ton of sacks, just like he did at Tulane and has lost of couple fumbles.

And again, he hasn't really played a defense.
The sacks could be his problem... but maybe behind a better oline, it wouldn't be much of an issue. But regardless, I'll always take a sack problem over an int problem.

I don't work for free, and I sure as **** would never suggest that a young person, playing a sport where they are risking their long term health take less, so some fans living out their "Massa" fantasies can feel better about themselves. It's amazing how capitalism is the best thing ever, until certain people start benefitting, and then it's an issue. Then again, sports is the ONLY endeavor where working class people will forgo class solidarity(A significant percentage of professional athletes come from working class/middle class backgrounds) to bootlick for billionaires, who will then loot local governments for facilities that the typical person aren't even welcomed in. Congrats, you've been played.

I've always found it weird that no one gave a **** when coaches, who are vastly different from the bulk of the players they coach, got paid obscene amounts, to the point that the highest paid state employee in almost every state is either a college football or basketball coach.

That is your opinion. They used to play the game for fun.

Should they be played for Pop Warner or Optimist ball? What about High School football? Where would that money come from?

It used to be education was the benefit. Fact is life is a choice and they never had to attend any institution to play sports. They could go to college only or get a real gig.

Your “feelings” leave out kids not getting paid. Your feelings don’t take into account the players you don’t see being penalized with politics because they aren’t being paid or paid as much. Transfer portal has killed player development.

College football is turning to ****.

This is how I know that people don't read a **** thing, nor understand history. People have NEVER, EVER played college football solely for fun. EVER. From the moment money got involved, teams started adding ringers and paying athletes to attend certain institutions. The only difference between NIL and what was happening back when Teddy R. was POTUS is that now, you don't have to hide that your starting tailback is getting paid.

The entire myth of amateurism is just that, a myth. Amateur sports were invented in the late 19th century, as a way to keep the working classes out of sports, to eliminate competition. A man working in a factory can't afford to go out and risk injury for free, because if he can't work, he can't survive. Never in human history before that point, was there such as thing as amateur sports. The Greeks and Romans didn't expect athletes to compete for free, athletes received land, military exemptions, and other things of value.

College football is a BILLION DOLLAR BUSINESS and there is no reason why the labor shouldn't be paid accordingly. By the way, if it was truly about education, then schools like UNC would have received the death penalty for widespread academic fraud, because they stole the one thing of value the student athletes of the time could receive. Then again, considering that the academic standards for student athletes are so incredibly low, even the NCAA doesn't believe that to be an equal exchange of value.

I mean…We're not supposed to adjust for that schedule? SoFlorida defense would be the 2nd best defense they've played.

Also, the memes and that **** are corny and feminine. But hey you do you
People that don't know what they are watching use stats to tell a story. Let your EPA and PFF speak for you.

I don't need any of that…It's called common sense.

You don't see a difference in the schedules? Not a bit right?

you gotta be a moron to think that.

And at least 3 times in this thread I conceded that Mensah looks better than I gave him credit for…. But you have to be realistic, that's against a complete trash schedule.

He is light years better than Beck. I don't care about the schedule. I would rather have had Mensah then and now.

Not light years…. And we really wouldn't know. Pretty much hasn't played a defense in his career. Beck would much prettier numbers against Mensah's schedule.

Slow your roll you said they were getting nothing, don’t play because they love the game, and then went onto the bad rich billionaires. I pointed out that you get room and board and a free education. Meals are free. It isn’t perfect but no gun was pointed at your head. You don’t want to play the game go get a job.

College football is broke. The NIL and transfer portal suck. Not everyone is being paid. Even people in charge of NIL explained how and why it was a clusterfook and that was his job.

Loyalty? Gone.
Team spirit? Gone
Player development? Not necessary
Playing time? Very political

I have no problem giving every single player the same cut. You go to Ohio State you get paid the same as a player going to Iowa State. You ply OG you get same as QB. You 3rd string? Same as the starter. Go back to old transfer rules.

Greeks and Romans? We talking 17 year old kids Willis. Not playing for USA, Greece, or Rome.

It’s broken. Badly.

This is just an example, but for every Beck there are two Emory Williams on the team saying “but in our meeting you told me it was my time and don’t transfer”. Then when the Becks show up and suck the coach tells you yeah it’s political we can’t play you over him. Sound of experience.

We disagree maybe but rest assured there is a better middle ground.

You sound stupid.

you're a f ucking idiot.

And you've always been lol.

It's really funny how someone digs up a comment from this past winter, **** near 11 months ago…And you di ck ride em right away. Attaboy.

I dug up my comment and noticed a pile of **** while digging. Go ahead and hold that tough Miami schedule tight.

The old system existed merely because the NCAA didn't want to pay worker's comp, it was all a con from the word go. The entire "Student-Athlete" ethos was a complete joke. That isn't me speaking, that's Walter Byers, the father of the NCAA speaking.

The current system isn't perfect, but it's a huge step forward. Playing college football isn't some fun activity like me participating in SG back in my undergrad days, it's a full time job. Those young people should be compensated accordingly. The NCAA didn't even consistently enforce their own rules pre NIL, choosing to punish smaller schools for committing the same infractions as larger, politically connected institutions. Ever wonder how SEC dominance in college football lessened over the last five years? Exactly.

This system is horrible and it’s ruining college football.

Alabama
Georgia
Georgia
Michigan
Ohio State

Before that:
LSU
Clemson
Alabama
Clemson
Alabama

SEC dominance lessened? You just disqualified yourself. They beat the **** out of each other and the other two have always been National Title contenders. There was Clemson before NIL going back 10 years.keep going back you had Miami and FSU…

You throw **** against the wall to support your argument. Nothing more nothing less. You rely on your feelings and then screaming.

Facts don’t support you. Real life examples are dismissed by you. College football needs to self correct. It’s a **** show.

If your justification for not paying someone is "I liked the product better when the field hands couldn't be paid legally", then that's a you problem. We are seeing significantly more parity in the game now, than we ever saw pre NIL. Indiana, Vanderbilt and others are now able to compete, they also have a chance to holding onto coaches, something that was almost impossible, even if they managed to hit on a hire.

Thanks to player movement rules, guys can now transfer and play immediately, and that means fans don't have to wait 3-5 years for a rebuild, a rebuild can be executed in short order. That's significantly better for fans, they are getting a better overall product.

You can easily argue this is the biggest change to the competitive landscape since scholarship limits(and people complained about that too). Yes, some elites have managed to stay in the hunt, that's always going to be true, no matter what changes occur.

The NCAA had DECADES to figure this out and they didn't. Why? Because underneath it all, they knew that there would be simps like yourself, that are blinded by nonsense like pageantry to not ask questions about why everyone else could get paid, except the largest group of people, the actual LABOR. If the players would have been allowed to collectively bargain, there would be legitimate guidelines in place, but we know the one thing the NCAA will NEVER allow to happen is collective bargaining.
