New Miami Hurricanes quarterback Darian Mensah is expecting a big year out of wide receiver Daylyn Upshaw.

In his second YouTube video of the offseason, Darian highlighted Upshaw as a player he expects to ball out at the Spring Game.

"Everybody knows about Mali [Malachi Toney], and what he did last year, but I think somebody who is going to surprise us tomorrow is Daylyn [Upshaw]. I think he's prime for a big year, he's been working his tail off... Can't wait to go out and see what he does tomorrow," Said Mensah.



During the spring game, the two connected on a big time play for an over the shoulder touchdown reception.

The upcoming sophomore saw limited playing time during his freshman season at Miami, playing in only six games due to a foot injury that sidelined him for the majority of the season.

Upshaw made his college debut against Bethune-Cookman. During that game he finished with 26 receiving yards on three receptions. He had a career-long 41-yard catch against Syracuse.

With a crowded wide receiver room for the Hurricanes this season, Upshaw is working hard to earn more snaps and secure a starting role.

 

You watch this video and there are clear guys who stick out from a technique, speed, and route running stand point. Upshaw looks like the 3rd best receiver out there. Toney is ridiculous btw.

I'll say this too, I know Dmoney gets a lot of s*** for the Lofton stuff but man, you watch some of these clips of him and you see that if he put it together he would be a huge problem for opposing defenses.

 

The season can't get here soon enough. I cannot wait to see this team play.

Spafford route running not bad for an incoming freshman, needs to get stronger more than anything.. There are also a ton of GREAT private wr coaches in area or that will fly in and work with him if need be, the NFL best use trainers down here, he has NIL money.. No excuses for any WR on this team, they should be best route runners in country

Yup. O'Connor is fine…He's a good player and a quality #2 or #3 CB. Getting beat by on a 1st round QB/WR connection on perfectly balls, where you had perfect coverage one play and still pretty good coverage the other play…Happens. People on here are nuts

I'd also add that from a technique pov, Lofton and Briggs ran really nice routes. Jacobs is gonna be a problem.

Board has a bizarre relationship with DBs

OJ was a dawg his entire freshman year then struggled a little bit against Syracuse and fans trashed him. Trashed him last year too but now he’s getting first round pick posts?

O’Conner was **** good last year but the natty title game is just lingering nevermind Indiana beat teams with those same plays the entire season

He’s electric in run support as well which may come into play this year with less of an edge dominance

I think Upshaw progress at Slot is a big deal. Malachai Toney for a ll his greatness must be used wisely.. Too many Snaps & To manny hits on certain Screen plays.

Upshaw gives you a productive player.
Malachai doesn’t need to be on all snaps of a game including Punt Returns.

Preserve Toney just like you preserve Fletcher.

This kid really impressed me in the limited action he saw. Young receivers, especially small ones, usually struggle playing through contact, creating space, making contested catches, and not getting knocked off their spots when they're true freshman. This kid had several plays where he really looked fluid through contact and made plays on the ball.

Side note, I know this is an Upshaw thread, but I just saw a way too early 2027 mock (which are useless, admittedly, but hang with me) and it had Barkate as a late 2nd round pick.

If Upshaw really has turned a corner, this truly could be a frightening receiving corps, if Barkate really does a middle of Day 2 pick.
