D'Antre Robinson commits to UF - now in portal

I really hope Blay is the man. But the best run team he's faced so far is Arkansas, not exactly a good marker for Notre Dame or other playoff teams.
DL is like pitching in baseball. You can literally never have enough

Unfortunately for us we are on the outside looking in when it comes to the portal pecking order

Is it a red flag that he signed with Texas, got released from his NLI, and is now transferring after 1 year at UF?
Not really, unless you consider the entire NIL, transfer portal process a red flag?! Which many do. Murder in the Wild Wild West is just every day sport. If he’s productive he’ll stay, if not he’ll look for another landing spot.

Agree. I wanted a DT1 because we still don't know exactly how Blay will hold up against top competition in a playoff run. But most important missing gap is a run stuffer who rounds out the 4-man rotation, and this guy satisfies that. Similar trajectory to Justin Scott, similar snap counts, came on stronger as last season progressed. He's also got multiple years of eligibility which is a big plus.
Blay will be fine. He more than held his own vs arkansas last year. He isn’t one of those undersized guys like cook or gore

I generally accept that, even though it's not close to being a sure thing.

But even if that's true, DT is probably the second most violent position after RB on the team, and has an equivalent need to rotate starters. We have 2 starters for 1 position at RB, and are screaming for a reliable RB3 in case of injury. In most sets, there is only 1 RB while there are 2 DTs.

So the math should be that we need 2x the talent and depth of RB at DT. Yet we only have 3 guys in the rotation, not 4, and no reliable depth. Recipe for failure over a 13-16 game schedule that gets harder at the very end of the season when injuries are often highest. Hence my constant harping on the need for more DTs.

I’m not arguing the need for depth. I was just talking about what you said about Blay. I think he will be fine. And from people who have seen him in spring it seems like he hasn’t had any problems
