The main problem with the College Football Playoff process is that the committee releases rankings too early. They published the rankings right after our losses, at a moment when Miami looked like they were trending downward. At the time, putting Notre Dame ahead of Miami may have seemed reasonable to most people.
But now the committee has essentially anchored to that spot, and it’s become very difficult for them to move Miami ahead of Notre Dame — even though the on-field results since then say otherwise.
I don’t understand why the we need to have CFp rankings before the season plays out. It’s premature. The rankings should work more like college basketball’s Selection Sunday — let all the games be played, allow the head-to-head results and metrics to fully settle, and then rank teams with all the evidence on the table.
