I read one of those "where Ed O could land" articles and the author said he could see UF hiring Ed O as DL coach and having him be the ace recruiter on defense. Say what you will about Ed O but he is a tremendous recruiter. We also know UF does not give a tinker's **** about character issues. I sure hope he doesn't end up there as he could make up for a lot what Mullen lacks in the recruiting department.

I know UM only wants people who are up for Sainthood as coaches, but if Mario does end up at UM as HC, I would love to see Ed O as DL coach.

I don’t think Ed O joins Mullet’s staph.
 
I would love to hear that recruiting pitch. Look son, we need you. You got to play by our book though. Got to play hard, fast, physical. Got to kiss my wife getting off the bus. Are you in?
 
Don’t care how great of X and O coach or recruiter you are, if you are as stubborn as he is and not willing to adapt you will not succeed in college football.

He's the kind of guy that wins you 9-10 games and if you put him in a situation where the recruiting basically takes care of itself, may be able to get over the hump. You'd think UF would be that place, but I think he's alienated the Bull Gators, and that's a big time problem. You need that infrastructure in order to land elite kids, especially when you are fighting UGA and Bama for guys.

There’s nowhere that recruiting takes care of it’s self though. If he took over for Saban, Alabama’s recruiting would flop. You could maybe make a case for just filling out his entire staff with ace recruiters but he won’t do that because he’s brought the same group of bums with him everywhere. You hire Dan Mullen, you’re getting Knox and Hevessy. Package deal. I think he’s a good X and O guy but he’s handicapping himself with subpar QB evaluation and general recruiting apathy

The fact he still has grantham as his dc is baffling to me. If he can get a better dc and recruit I think he could make a jump as a coach, but as of now its not happening.

If he can't recruit, yet pulls in top 15 classes every year, tells me Florida must recruit itself decent enough. Their recruiting rankings match their play.

Been Bama, UGA, OSU, Clemson then everybody else fighting it out. Top 5-15 competing with OU, UT, LSU, PSU, etc not terrible.

Top 15 classes aren’t going to cut it if you want to win championships. Besides, dig a little deeper and see how many highly ranked kids they’ve signed either never made it into school or transferred/kicked out in a year or less. They had one class where 25% of the kids they signed never played a down for UF.

I get that it’s obviously much easier to sign big name recruits at a major P5 school like Florida but the UF brand alone isn’t going to put you nearly on talent level of Alabama, UGA or even LSU. You’ve got to put in the work as a recruiter and get those legit top 5 classes. The gap between the top team and the 6th team is far bigger than gap between 6th and 20th.

Oh I agree with that. I think being UF, sec, is the only reason they get good classes, was more of what I'm saying. Wasn't a disagreement, I just don't know if it all falls on Mullet or not. As you say they aren't a premier brand like others. Take a killer on the recruiting trail for them to sniff top 5 classes.
 
My buddy says SOON. Claims Lane Train. Skeptical. Especially before FSU game. I do believe it will happen though. Not sure on LK. Regardless, they will he pro-active about it, like a real college should be.

Now they're saying *Sunday*, after FSU. Allegedly already raised 10 million for buyout.
