Dan Le Betard Show - Miami Scoop

Untrue. Highly untrue.

Also, you have no idea how much the sports merchandise market has changed, just in the past few years. Fanatics has had a huge impact, and they are actually running the merch operations for many pro teams, both website and at-stadium.

If Miami regains a national Top 10 merch sales ranking, the adidas deal will be small.
Miami is a such known brand they’d probably get the best deal outside Oregon, for obvious reasons, on the market.

She did good by Uhealth but she should never had tamped down the football program by allowing us to only spend what the Athletic dept made and also she raised the Qualifying GPA. So she can kick rocks and go back to the Shiar with Frodo

That wasn't her decision. That has ALWAYS been the approach on Athletics. People (mistakenly) act like Donna made some sort of a change, but she did not.

Plus, nobody even acknowledges how Athletics money changed (fundamentally) when we moved from the Big East to the ACC. Yes, that may have also given us first-world problems (possible complacency over the new guaranteed money), but imagine where Miami would have been (financially) if we stayed in the Big East.

Donna made mistakes. I was never a fan of her "hire an up-and-comer" approach for every job at UM, particularly since Athletics needs a different approach.

But Donna's policies were the same as Tad's policies. We can critique that, since athletics (in general) have been going through massive changes in the past couple of decades, but let's not tell lies about how Donna somehow made everything worse.

Correct spelling for Bama guy and his background. Has roots with Orange Bowl committee and an FSU grad but good credentials

Being at Alabama, he has worked with Mario and Lane.
Oh gosh, the FSU grad. This can only go wrong...

Funny that after YEARS of hearing (often by people around here) that we don't have money for athletics or especially that we don't understand how university budgets work and you CANNOT just take money from one end of a university and dump it in another that Kirk Herbstreit (God bless him) makes ONE comment on national TV and BAM....here's $30 mil! And why are people citing that the money is so easily available? Because UHealth is raking it in.

Sooooo maybe as a future point of reference whenever we discuss college athletics and university finances let's just adhere to the notion of "Where there's a will (or effective public pressure)....there's always a way".
It's been highly entertaining to watch the debates about finances on here. There's a CFO within the university who posts here. He's a friend. And, I routinely watch big mouth posters try to cut down the clues he drops. Good times.

Brian Whites name has been mentioned a lot, so thats kinda interesting.

Any chance they can carve out some funds for a men's lacrosse team to play in the ACC?

This should send people over the edge....

I would prefer to have Miami reinstate men's programs that Dave Maggard cut in the 1990s.

Hey all, this is good news. Is there really cracks to find with your microscopes? How about you just get excited enough and rub one out over this with your micro-***** instead.

Cliffs Notes:

  • Tuesday night meeting with Rudy Fernandez and Jorge Barria that ran point. Rudy has taking a very active role. Meeting was to explain that the excuse Miami has no money no longer holds water. Blake worked under the impression that there was no money, that every ask was a NO.
  • He had a lot of resentment towards the admin for not fully supporting him. But he lacked the vision, guts and aggressiveness to make the ask and get it done. He was weak.
  • Miami is going to pump an additional $20-30M towards the football program.
  • Miami is doing this and making it public so HCs and ADs can hear this.
  • This makes Mario and Lane possible targets.
  • Jeff Perrington - Associate AD at Bama is the hot name.
  • Promised to hire a national firm to conduct this search but there are a lot of people angling to get Mario in independent of the search.
  • Mario is all about recruiting and Lane is all about gameday coaching and adjustments.
  • The Herbie blast took UM by surprise and the needed to change the narrative.
Hire an independent firm AND talk to Mario, Lane, or anyone else the school thinks is a viable candidate. It can't hurt.

Now if we hire a "national firm" and hire from within again, I am done. I'm already not watching another game until Manny is fired, but crapping the bed AGAIN would finish me off. Life is too short for crappy football.

Sounds like a bidding war. Make Nike top Adidas or **** off.

He's been my number 1 target since I started researching potential Blake replacements about 2 months ago

Purinton was Weinke’s roommate too, lol. I’d rather go the more experienced route but he has seen first hand how a top program does business. Spent a lot of time around him/same vicinity but didn’t really have many personal interactions with him.
I dont think you can get more experience than the guy who was the AD for Bama since 2007.
