Once JT works with Wilson on hand techniques and playing with more violent hands, and the different step concepts to get OT’s off balance, it’ll be a wrap. Young man has great (PAUSE) bend and an explosive first step.
Agree completely, he’s far far far from a finished product.

That's all great. He's not a dt weight wise. He's about 40lbs short. Ain't no way in **** that happens. I didn't see all this stiffness. He didn't get starter reps. I thought he was really affective . If you watch when he was inside he had one job. And it wasnt stopping the run.
Bain and Mesidor werent giving up any of their reps and Blount wanted to see the field. He had no choice.

Everything equal, Blount and Wilson would serve as our DE on 1st down and then on 2nd/3rd down, you sprinkle Lowe, Lightfoot and others on an intentional, regular rotation. I could see Blount slide inside occasionally on pass rushing downs to allow 3 pass rushing monsters on the field at same time.

Last year the starters Bain and Mesidor probably ate 90 percent of the snaps. This year the starters probably eat 50-60 percent of the snaps.

I didn’t say he was stiff I said he doesn’t have the bend to be a top pass rusher. Everyone just thinks he is a natural Bain replacement and the truth is he is not, and there is nothing wrong with that. He has 2.5 sacks on the season and they all came from the DT position.

He said himself in an interview before the season started that he was 270. If he just gets to 285 he will be big enough to be a very solid DT. He showed all season that he can play the position. The only sack against Ole Miss was from Blount in the DT position.

He has played inside on run downs a lot during the season. On the running play in the national championship, where he was called for the face mask penalty, he was playing DT.

I do believe he will also play some DE, but the truth is he’s growing into a full time DT and I just don’t see anything stopping that.

He is 270 pound 18 year old who has gained 30 pounds since he arrived on campus and isn’t close to maxed out physically. But we shall see.

The point about Kiper’s mocks isn’t about him being right but every time that nerd is on live tv, he’s going to be talking about Mesidor in the first round and him being Kiper’s #2 ranked DE. It’s publicity. Free publicity. The more Mesidor is talked about the likelier he goes 1st round.
Shaduer had more free pub from Kiper than anyone ever…

Part of the reason 3/4 ate snaps was due to the drop off in offense. Had we been scoring 42 a game, those snap counts drop a ton and our 2/3rd teamers would have been more prepared for CFP action. I was disappointed in the offense this year. We clearly had a better outside and pistol running attack but failed to use it enough including in the natty. If we take the step on offense, it will allow our defense to rotate more even if we give up 7 more per game.

You see great bend? I must have missed it. Bain had great bend. Wilson looked like he had to stutter step to get around since he was too fast and upright

Offense wasn’t as good this year, but i thought we had a lot of sustained drives over 2nd half of the season. I think Bain and Mesidor didnt want to come off period.

Had we had more explosive drives with scoring increasing by 10pts per game, 3/4 would have been pass rushing a ton more and offenses would have need more uptempo to keep up. That is when 3/4 tended to come off the field some. It’s hard to say what happens if we were scoring 42 a game. The game becomes that much tougher on opponents and easier on our pass rushing.

In 2026, JT will need to force the starters to rotate to make sure we get more experience and snaps for the rotation.

I love the optimism on this thread and certainly hope its proven accurate, but the idea that we lose Bain and Mesidor and people think that we won't take a step back on the line is insane to me. And Bain, as high as he may go, will be severely missed. We may still be very good but that is a duo unlike anything we've had in decades.
The biggest change is going to be the offense. With Mensah and the WR talent we are adding, 26 offense should look more like 24 offense. Meaning we could have a much more explosive offense, maybe even a higher tempo one. If that correlates to scoring more and SOONER, then the defense will be able to play more obvious passing downs and those DE’s will have to play less ‘run defense’

We played in so many dog fights, especially from early season to Nov, that the defense needed to be so well rounded because the score being close kept the playbook open for opposing offenses.

TLDR : more explosive offense = more passing downs for defense = hurts less to lose the 2 best run defense edge players in the country.

Gotta get Blount more reps at end. Wide-9 to help set the edges and in run defense. Run defense is where Bain was so good.
I keep thinking like how is he not the replacement for mesi or bain at end? What went into him wanting to be at dt? Feel like he has the build and power to play edge, maybe he’s not athletic enough?idk
