You can't compare Indiana and Miami's rosters. Miami has way more talent that they have to keep than Indiana. They will be replacing several starters and back ups, we will be losing a hand full, but have more home grown talent waiting to replace them, they are going to cost money to keep,

Exactly…dont be annoyed. Dont let my post impact you. i see terrible takes on the boards, and I keep it moving most of the time. If its a topic I have an opinion on, ill engage. But i certainly dont down talk anyone or tell other to “stop posting” or communicating their thoughts. what are we Europeans now?

Exactly. Money is finite. We spent a large portion of our budget on retention. I probably would have done the same thing. We'll see whether our approach or Indiana's is the better long term play, but both are defensible imo.

Right now, because we sat out that opening weekend in the portal to avoid distractions before the Fiesta Bowl, we are the one with distractions before the National championship.

They set up their team for next season. Win or lose.

Now if we lose, and have no QB, among other positions, WE are the ones doing real bad.

This has been said 100 times. Do they need more players than us because they aren’t built on depth? Yes

So obviously they are not spending as much $$ on retention.

Jesus guys it’s not that hard to comprehend.

If Moton or Bryce or Mali hopped in the portal you would all have a freaking meltdown.

We don’t need 100 portal players this offseason. We needed about 10 high quality ones.

Us and Indiana aren’t a direct comparison though. Cig has two classes worth of recruits signed. Only one has been on a campus for a year. Compared to Mario, who’s fourth full class is coming in now.

IU is still in more a of roster overhaul stage than we are. Schools like TT and IU are going to bring in massive portal hauls for the near future. That’s the roster building process they are using. I don’t think either way is wrong, we are just further down the line in building our roster than they are.

Exactly. We have a championship roster returning that we need to keep intact.

Exactly. There’s a major disconnect with some posters on this board. We begged Mario to stack classes. He did that. Flipped the DB room last year with a bunch of multi-year players via the portal.

We have afforded ourselves the right to be selective in the portal. We aren’t needing to replace 50% of the roster anymore. 10 guys backfills what we do lose without having to play an over abundance of young guys.

That’s what I think happens to TT or Texas. They are just signing the guys with 5⭐️ next to their name.

I like IU’s portal approach. They find their guys for their scheme and culture fit and nail them down. Their approach seems more stable imo. But it’s a necessity for them to survive. Last year it was for us. This year not so much.
 
For anyone familiar with his game, is Damon Wilson someone who can be good on running downs too or this a much better version of Tyler Baron?

You don't get it. It's been said so many times. Indiana is replacing dozens of old guys who are out of eligibility. WE don't have that on the roster. We have talent - you don't rock the boat while you are preparing for the Natty. This was never going to be a huge portal class. I think they prioritized who they could - some guys just wanted the check and they went where it was paid first.

This is dumb. The calendar does none of the CFP teams a favor. Have you noticed not a single team from the final four last year was in it this year. TT has an advantage from actually getting bounced early. Let’s just go win the whole thing. If we only win 9-10 games next year I really don’t care as long as we back up the following year and so forth.

It happened last cycle to though, teams are adapting and offering more. We are going to have to keep on pushing the bar higher because thats how this goes. They will get more more more and more, its never enough.

We can hedge on QB play with elite LOS play.

The Miami DE concept is clear. We have 2 top picks in this years draft with Mes and Bain. A Hall of Fame mentor in Jason Taylor. city of Miami over Lubbock.

Match the money and this is a win for us. Easy sell
