Every day during portal season, Pete and I will be tracking the player movement on the CanesInSight Podcast. We did this last year, and it really helped us understand the teams. A summary of today’s discussion is below.
Indiana’s portal surge
The Hoosiers didn’t let their playoff run slow down a very aggressive start to the portal cycle.
“They got their quarterback in Josh Hoover from TCU,” Pete said. “I don’t think he would have been a terrible option for Miami.”
Hoover’s fit with Indiana’s system was a big part of the move.
“He’s a good RPO passer,” DMoney said. “TCU runs a ton of RPO… and Curt Cignetti is one of the most RPO-heavy coaches in the country.”
Indiana also added Boston College running back Turbo Richard (5-8, 207, 5.2 yards per carry, 9 TDs in 2025).
"He plays like Roman Hemby," DMoney said of the high school 100M champ. "He fits exactly what they do.”
At wide receiver, the Hoosiers landed one of the most coveted players available in Nick Marsh from Michigan State.
“Nick Marsh was one of the most highly touted receivers in the portal,” DMoney said. “6-3, 203… forced 28 missed tackles, second in the country for wide receivers… 59 catches, 662 yards, six touchdowns.”
The move also had implications for Miami.
“Notre Dame was very hot after him,” DMoney said. “I’m glad he’s going to Indiana instead of Notre Dame.”
Miami is scheduled to travel to South Bend in 2026.
Indiana also upgraded its pass rush with two big signings.
“They added Tobi Osunsanmi (6-3, 250, 4 sacks in 2025) from Kansas State,” DMoney said. “6-3, 250… super fast… big-time closing speed.”
Notre Dame edge Joshua Burnham (40 career games, 16 tackles, 6 TFLs, 3 sacks in 2025) followed.
“This is a loss for Notre Dame,” DMoney said. “40 career games… 16 tackles, six tackles for loss, three sacks.”
The Hoosiers rounded out the haul with defensive backs Preston Zachman (Wisconsin) and Ja’Quan Sanks (Cincinnati).
Penn State imports Iowa State
Penn State went all-in on Matt Campbell’s Iowa State pipeline.
“15 transfers from Iowa State to Penn State,” DMoney said.
Quarterback Rocco Becht leads the group.
“Tough, experienced,” DMoney said. “Plug and play.”
Campbell’s reputation for evaluating skill talent showed up quickly. Running back Carson Hansen (220 lbs, 952 rushing yards, 5.1 YPC, 2025) brings power and speed. Tight end Benjamin Brahmer (6-7, 255, All-Big 12) adds size and red-zone presence. Wide receiver Brett Eskildsen (17.5 yards per catch, verified 10.7 speed) gives Penn State a vertical threat it has lacked.
Pete likes the direction.
“I’m a Matt Campbell guy,” he said. “I fully trust what he’s doing.”
Oklahoma State’s North Texas Big Three
New Oklahoma State head coach Eric Morris brought his core with him from North Texas.
“This is a real Big Three,” DMoney said.
Quarterback Drew Mestemaker (4,379 yards, 34 TDs in 2025) headlines the group.
“4,379 yards, 34 touchdowns,” DMoney said of the nation's leading passer. “He’s got size, can move, good arm.”
Running back Caleb Hawkins (true freshman, over 1,100 rushing yards in 2025) may be the biggest upside play.
“This dude is a stud,” DMoney said. “Track guy, basketball player… future NFL back.”
Wide receiver Wyatt Young completes the trio.
“Third nationally in yards,” DMoney said. “He works primarily out of the slot, 295 yards against Rice. He breaks a ton of tackles.”
The quarterback carousel
Top Miami target Brennan Sorsby committed to Texas Tech in one of the biggest moves of the day.
“$5 million to Texas Tech,” DMoney said. “He’s 0–8 in November, but it’s a great fit for him. They need someone with that talent.”
Kenny Minchey left Notre Dame for Nebraska, a shift away from Nebraska’s previous strategy of paying top dollar for a high-school quarterback. After the podcast, Minchey flipped again to Kentucky.
Meanwhile. Ohio State backup Lincoln Kienholz transferred to Louisville.
“I love this guy,” DMoney said. “South Dakota kid, multi-sport, really athletic with a good arm. This is a big opportunity for him.”
Wisconsin added Colton Joseph from Old Dominion.
“Over 2,000 passing, 1,000 rushing, made big plays against Indiana and Virginia Tech,” DMoney said. “He’ll have a chance.”
Illinois picked up Katin Houser, a former four-star from California who rebuilt his value at East Carolina after leaving Michigan State. This move showed the dangers of investing big in a high school quarterback.
“Michigan State had to work hard to get Houser out of high school,” DMoney said. “He leaves, develops, and comes back to the Big Ten for someone else.”
Ole Miss reloads its secondary
Ole Miss addressed its defensive backfield with two key additions.
“Jay Crawford of Auburn… probably one of the best outside corners on the market,” DMoney said. “11 pass breakups, two interceptions.”
They also landed Florida nickel Sharif Denson.
“Very good against the run,” DMoney said. “Really good in the box.”
Pete explained why Miami’s name was tied to Denson during the process.
“Agents are using Miami’s name to up the price,” he said. “It forces schools to move fast.”
