DAILY DEBATE: Who is our backup QB against Notre Dame?

If Emory plays against ND and it’s not when we are up 100, fire everyone

I'm defining Danny's question in the OP as being a scenario where Beck starts and gets injured during the game. Who's the first QB off the bench?

For all Emory's shortcomings, he's the only other QB on the roster who's actually played in a college football game. Having one of the other two kids making their debut off the bench in that scenario seems worse than having Emory come in. At least that's the way I see it.

Is the goal to win or complete the rest of the game?

Emory showed his abilities starting the second half of the bowl game without the element of injury.

Beck is injured now. Roster mismanagement if Emory is QB1.

Re; the bolded part - That's a different question than being asked in this thread. This is not, "Who is QB2?" This is who's the first guy off the bench against ND? I maintain that Emory is the best choice.

To the topic:
I continue to maintain that Emory has done better than expected given the situations he's been put in.

1) Clemson 2023: He was not given first team reps until Thursday yet still played well enough for the Canes to get the win. Clemson was a top ten defense in FBS that year.

2) FSU 2023: FSU was a 13 win team that season. Miami was a 7 win team. Emory was not given first team reps until Wednesday of that week and still kept us in the game until he was injured at the very end.

3) Iowa State 2024: I stepped away from following things after this game. Was it ever determined if it was planned for Cam Ward to not play the second half? If so, do we know how many first team reps Emory was given? Either way, ISU had the #4 defense in FBS against the pass. Emory had a bad half of ball.

In each of these outings, Emory made very good decisions. He managed the game better than could be hoped for. If the question is who among the current three QB's competing right now should be first off the bench against ND, I'd roll with Emory.

Emory will likely not receive first team reps in your scenario, and given his last performance -- anyone but Emory should come off the bench, including various forms of the wildcat, before Emory is allowed to throw wounded ducks against ND.

To the other part of the discussion -- if Emory is QB2 entering ND, it is roster mismanagement entering year 4 of the Mario era.
