You have to credit Dabo for his hires (Venables, Morris)

But he's had some insane talent go through there (which you have to give him credit for) in a terrible conference and couldn't escape a season without two or more losses.

Boyd, Watkins, Hopkins, Ellington in the ACC shouldn't have lost more than a game.

When his offenses were great his defenses were terrible. Now he has the defense, no more excuses for pulling anymore Richts.

UM fans hold opposing coaches to a much higher standard than they hold UM coaches.

I have noticed this also. Funny how that works, put every coach or coaching candidate thru the grinder but find every excuse for al who doesnt deserve any equity as he has never accomplished anything of note to deserve it since he got here.

Agreed. We have some real maniacs within our ranks. We have people that one minute will be making a case to bring Cristobal "home" and then minutes later will be saying they'd pass on certain NFL coaches. I can't even imagine the level of fuctardery that'd be spewed if Lane Kiffin went to undergrad in the Gables.

Are there really fans who still want Golden around?

My thoughts on Dabo were completely irrelevant from the game this weekend.

I'm putting my wife on Clemson on Saturday

Maybe Al just needs to get himself a nickname with an "O" on the end of it to win in this league. Dabo, Jimbo. Albo should stop trying to be the smartest guy in the room along with that Rainman D coordinator of his. You know, the guy that flips through all the papers. Just be a regular yahoo and simplify things. Put a little pinch between his cheek and gum. Probably win 10-11 games a year.

Yes. There are many that do, actually like him for no reason dealing with wins/losses, make every excuse for him in book, give him and defense pass, and if he wins this weekend or even just keep it close they will be out in full force. Heck after fsu beat us there were people trying to peddle our 5th straight loss to rival as a moral victory of sorts. We have entered bizarro land it seems. Some people seem to care about golden more than the canes, its a mind boggling thing to see as they do mental gymnastics to justify him as good coach with no evidence

Dabo's record against teams that finished the season ranked is 8-12 while Golden record is 0-11.
Based on this alone, Clemson should be the favorite.

thats rather silly as both have been coaching under different set of circumstances to judge on an even basis like you're trying to do.
Not taking anything away from Dabo as I think he's a heck of a coach, but you don't evaluate games on those simplistic terms.
Yes Clemson should be favorite, but I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that they will win or be a blowout.
Miami has gone toe to toe with FSU two years in a row. Beat a UF team loaded with high caliber athletes..
We'll see but I'm liking my chances at an upset and Golden's 1st win vs a top 5 team.

"Beat a UF team loaded with high caliber athletes."

Since you are obviously referring to UF 2013, there are 7 other coaches that also accomplished that amazing feat. One of which is the head coach at Georgia Southern. I honestly can't believe you had the audacity to list that as if it were objective proof of Golden's coaching prowess.

Also why can we not judge Golden and Dabo by their record? You claim this is tantamount to comparing apples and oranges because "Both have been coaching under different set of circumstances to judge on an even basis". How is judging them against each other based on their record simplistic? Using your line of reasoning, it would be impossible or unfair to compare any 2 coaches using their respective records as evidence because if you want to get that technical about it, nobody coaches under the same set of circumstances. Well, I disagree completely. With a sample size as big as Golden and Dabo's career records we can draw many valid generalizations and come to a few solid conclusions. Dabo Swinney is a better football coach than Al Golden and Al Golden is a poor football coach are both statements that I feel very comfortable making as they are both supported by tangible fact.

You're delusional. Of course you evaluate coaches on their record against top teams: that's kind of the whole point.

How about evaluating Golden on the fact that he is in the FIFTH year of coaching UM, has had top 25 recruiting classes every year, and the team he leads is not even sniffing a top 25 ranking?

It's very, very hard to coach at UM for five years and not even be in the discussion of top 25 teams.

I get the same feeling only I think Kaaya could actually bail him out. It's going to be very interesting to see.
