D

The Defense was not the problem and if you think that you are not very bright. L'ville had less than 250 yds going into the 4 the qtr. We had multiple sacks, TFLs and forced TOs. That's good enough.

I didn't like the 3 man rushes, soft zones or Kirby being out there at all but we didn't yield much. The problem is when they moved the ball it looked easy but that doesn't take away from the results through 3 qtrs.

The problem is the offense. 4 consecutive 3/4 play drives coming out of the locker room sucked the life out of the D. Game over, this is on two men, Al Golden and James Coley.

It was good enough for yesterday. It is not good enough against better competition and certainly not as we expect to move forward toward Championship (Conference, at least) success. Louisville is not a great team and they made a lot of mistakes last night - dropped balls, etc.

I don't disagree that the offense is a problem. I simply disagree that the defense we saw last night is good enough going forward. At base, it lacks sufficient disruption. That's like looking at last year's UF game and saying "hey, we got TOs, some sacks and made plays when we needed to - that's enough." Yep. For that one game. It is a reaction to a specific game rather than a look at whether the concepts will hold up in future scenarios.

The perception that last night was a pretty good night for our defense is what scares me, since many people thought the same thing after the UF game last year. We didn't get continually gashed, and we caused some turnovers and we generally played more solid defense than we had, but there were still some glaring issues. Their QB, starting his first game, completed almost 75% of his passes. There were the same huge gaps in our zone coverage in the intermediate/middle that they exploited. We still didn't get a consistent pass rush. We still had our OLBs/rush DEs isolated in space on slot receivers, which obviously creates mismatches in coverage but also hurts us in defending the run. We couldn't stop the run in the 4th quarter when we knew it was coming. Our secondary, which is supposed to be the strength of the team, still was a non-factor. The last point is something that is a real concern, as that group was supposed to be the strength of the D. Other than Crawford's pass break up (which was borderline PI), were there any plays made on the ball?

I think that we are looking at a defense that is still vulnerable to being carved up as the season goes on. The system looks to be exactly the same. There wasn't more aggressiveness and attacking, even with an experienced secondary behind the front 7. Our D certainly wasn't the reason we lost, but I didn't come out of the game feeling like we could rely on it going forward.

I thought Trent Harris was a d end? Could of sworn I saw dude play as a middle lb and even in the secondary a few times. If his number is 33 then that's ******* sad

Cool story brah. We get it you love Folden. Please remove the creepy avatar. I don't get why someone would have an avatar of Kaaya when he was a kid......

The D was marginally better than last year. However, if they don't drop 2 wide open 3rd down conversions, they are well over 400 yards with a 1st time starter at QB and missing they're best WR and arguably their best RB.

Was the O a bigger problem last night? Yes. Will the D get carved up regularly again this year? Probably. Saw way too many wide open WR's against our soft zone

The defense did their part aside from the 95 yard drive. Still a retarded scheme and our coaching staff probably knows it but they're too dense to change anything. Very stubborn group of neanderthals.

I don't know...I mean, at least in my opinion the point is that a good team with an experienced QB and no major injuries (UL Starting Wr out...) would have manufactured drives like that 95 yarder on us all game.

We also gave up a KO Ret TD, which I know isn't defense, but no one even got a hand on the guy.

For some reason, this game reminds me of the UF game last year. Sure, our defense didnt look TERRIBLE, but I just have a feeling it's all down hill from here...hopefully I'm wrong.

This was also a team playing with an entire new offense and defense, against us, a team who lost WAY fewer guys, has the same offensive and defensive system in place as last year, and quite frankly, better talent too.

There's no reason we should lose that game. Period.

Once again people go out of their way to blame one side of the ball. The defense performed better than the offense but the defense was still a problem. Under Golden, there's always going to be a problem even if one side of the ball plays perfectly.

The mark of a poorly coached team: one side finally performs DECENT and the other side is the let down.

So cheerlead all you want about the defense not being a complete embarrassment like it usually is.

Good one about Kaaya. You should probably read through this thread and multiple others where I said he should be gone. Reading is tough though, I get it.

Anytime you get 8 TFLs, 4 sacks, 2 FFs in the opponents RZ in the FIRST 3 QTRS you've done your job, especially against a good team. The D handed the Offense drive starts on the L'ville's 7 and 8 yd line and the offense turned it into 3 points. At the least that should be 10 points. Take into account that there was a ST TD and the defense gave up a net 13 points. If the Coley knew what the fvck he was doing that number shrinks to 9 points. That's good defense no matter how much we all hate Dnfr's scheme and I'm not a fan at all.

That's how you look at football critically and any DC on the planet will tell you that. This game's outcome had nothing to do with the Defense and everything ot do with decision made before the game, Kaaya starting, and Coley's "plan".

Why don't you give your critical analysis since it's clear you've never played a down of meaningful football in your entire life. I'll wait.
