Dude looked like a robot in space...

Need another LB in this class. Hopefully the OLB from STA

It's amazing that some of you still attempt to make these proclamations on freshmen. STFU with it. Plus it looked like he pulled up lame on the play on defense when the ball carrier got around the outside on him. Looked like he grabbed his hammy.

I actually think they're referring to one specific play, where he actually pulled a hammy and had to leave the game. so yea, that probably made him look like "a giraffe robot in space" or WTF ever.

Nah, he looked bad in the previous plays before he pulled up...

Yea probably because it was bothering him, but crucify him if ya'll must. I guess he will never get better than he is 9 games into his freshman season as a reserve that's being groomed to be a big time rotational player in the future.

I never said he’ll never amount to anything. Way too early for that. Don’t know if it was bothering him before that.
Isn’t he like 20?

Wilder strikes me as a kid that'll likely come on probably later into his sophmore year. He's currently 3rd string right now so reps are severely limited. Agree with the aforementioned premise that just because a kid's not an all-american their frosh year, doesn't mean they're a waste. Just means that said player will need more development.

You need some special teams savages too. Even if he doesn't develop into a rotation guy (not saying that won't happen), if he's 1 out of 85 that plays a role he's good with me.

Yup. Every guy isn't going to be an AA.

Having said that, I'm not a big fan of trying to convert DEs to LB. If kid is not used to playing in space, speed doesn't matter. He's going to be lost.

Hopefully he learns the position. If he doesn't, at least he'll be a stud on special teams.

Not every true Frosh going to come in here and light it up. If he isn't an all-American by mid season as a fresh you guys just write them off. I wonder if half the people on this board have ever even played football. Kids don't get comfortable sometimes till they are upperclassmen.

Great post.

after what we i've seen in 1 and 3/4 years of richt's era, i have NO concern on player development and fully expect Wilder to be a ATLEAST a serviceable backup, with solid starter being more likely

Honestly, w/ the emergence of Berrios, MJ, Redwine, Delaney (one I'm guilty of bashing), Langham, etc. etc. we would get to the point of stop rushing to judgment. The kid is a freshman w/ limited playing time. Can we let him get in to the flow of the game?

We have alot of bums on this board. Michael Jackson was a jag, Langham. Soon they'll out Richards on there.

I don't know if I can remember another season when players improved so much just during the course of a season. Part of that might be a result of the disruption to practice and our game schedule caused by the hurricane. Most of us have a lot more confidence in some of these guys, especially in he secondary, than we did at the beginning of the season.

It is true, however, that sometimes players show up on campus as freshmen and the staff find out quickly that the kid cannot play for us at this level. I can think of some examples over the past thirty years. That does not mean it applies to Wilder. I would give him a lot more time, a lot more.

Easy, fellas. Let's not fall into the two-party system (rah-rah-ers vs. JAG-ers). We can discuss players here.

Criticism does not equal crucifixion.

He didn't play well. That's OK to say.

But he's a freshman who's still learning the position who was perhaps hobbled, and for those reasons and more, we shouldn't write him off either.

I've played and was considered **** good, but until my sophomore yr people were like (how this guy got a full).... Last 2 yrs Co-Captain on a winning team. Wilder has blazing speed he just needs to get the speed of game time execution. I'm glass half full because of his speed.

He could be Usain Bolt-fast. If he's not quickly identifying and reacting to the play, it doesn't matter.

He pulled up lame on the one play OP may be talking about, it looked bad...But saw him grab his hammy at end of play.
