He was being heavily looked at but after they finished all the research they felt comfortable placing him as a fall back option. That's pretty simple to understand.

Sure that's easy enough to understand if the situation was presented as such but it wasn't. Butch was supposedly firmly in the lead with huge support from alumni, former players, fans and big money donors. There was another part to the rumor that alleged it was a done deal with Davis and this "national search" was nothing more than a smokescreen to make it appear they did their due diligence.

All of a sudden we go from that to hearing that Davis is a fall back guy. It is well known that the powers at the Hecht were going to do a thorough examination on exactly what happened at UNC. You allege that after perusing the UNC information that Davis went from leader to fall back status. That however, does not stand to reason. If the BOT had found anything bad in their investigation then Davis wouldn't be in the picture at all. So to me, if Davis truly is a fall back option, it doesn't have anything to do with UNC.
