There is an assumption across college football that our D-Line is gonna take a step back in 2026 cuz Bain and Messidore are gone. I strongly disagree. The acquisition of Wilson from the portal, Lightfoot's development after a really good year last year and Hayden Lowe who may be the best Dend on the team the 2cd half of the season is the best 3 man rotation at Dend in America. When we shift our attention to Dtackle the combination of Moten and Scott is as good as v we have had in a very, Very long time. Then you add Blount who will play both inside and out and is ready to have a breakout season. Also Cole McConathy who the coaches value greatly will holpfully stay healthy and really give quality depth at Dend. This Dline will once again be the best in America and will be, as an entire unit better than last year.

SMH you clearly didn’t get the memo that Cole is now at TE.
 
We lost the best DE duo in school history

I agree that the overall group is better and deeper but it’s going to be some moments when we are reminded just how much we lost with 3 and 4

Still though, there’s an absurd amount of talent and if Mesidor can become a first round pick then I’d say these guys are in good hands when it comes to coaching

It's Mesidor.....spell check numbnuts
 
There were several instances last year when Bain and Mesidor were gassed (4th Qtr FSU, Louisville and SMU for sure). I think the fact that we can roll more players that are high caliber will be a huge positive for the unit.

Not iust more players they were getting held all game. It was crazy

People gotta keep up… I don’t think anyone is super concerned with rushing the passer capabilities of the replacements, it’s the edge setting that has questions.

And after watching reps between Cantwell and Wilson I was concerned for obvious reasons

I keep looking at that first sentence and the potency of it , if you’re just a fan you’d miss the depth of this statement.

I’ve seen them all from Steadman Scavella ( that’s old) on up to this duo , so I started thinking back on all those greats I’ve seen and met at PaPa Chicks house .

So I ask myself could we have made NC game without them , this is really the only true question.

The answer is NO way , we couldn’t without them in anyway .

Let alone (2) #1 draft choice's , they are the the greatest DE combo ever assembled and just maybe in CFB history.

What worries me is defending the run. Bain and Mesidor were every down DEs. You could see at times if Lightfoot was in, they’d run right at him because he couldn’t set the edge. That could trickle down into putting our LBs in some tough spots.

Pass defense, not worried. We have a stud DB field and pass rushing should be fine. It’s the 3rd and mid and 2nd and mid that could put us in tough spots.

We’ve certainly had our fair share of absolute freaks at Miami. **** Calais is still balling in the league

We’ve had crazy pass rushing freaks. We’ve had elite run stoppers

But both? Pretty rare. And two of them on the same line?? It was historic. People got way too hung up on sack numbers with these guys.

I go back to the first 3rd down against OSU. Everyone in the building knew you had to get hands on 3 and 4 to give Sayin time. OSU was a great team with good coaching to come up with a plan.

Sayin got sacked by both of them in about .001 seconds. These dudes were just different

This D-Line is filthy.
 
The interior DL will be the difference. If they stay healthy and do what I expect, we will control almost every LOS. If Blount or Lowe can hold an edge, we're going to see nasty things. I trust Hetherman to use Lightfoot and Wilson in disruptive enough ways.

Holding the edge is the key. People here don’t understand how well the combo of Bain or Mesidor in combination with Scott played the edges against the run. It was honestly as good as I’ve ever seen it here. The edge players have MASSIVE shoes to fill in that regard. And Thornton does too.

Calais , to this day coaches state that he’s still impossible to block .
But teams he’s played say he’s even a better teammate and person always a smile gives his experience and wisdom away to all who are open to it.

Brother when he’s finished how could anybody say he’s not the best ever.

You mention to elite pass rusher Calais name and everything stops to acknowledge his greatness on and off the field.

An NFL TREASURE of all time.
