Curious as to views

I think it’s important to realize that Gattis, outside of BCU was complete ***.

I told @LeedsCane after the So Miss game I didn’t like what I saw; this was pre-rash of injuries. The OL actually did a solid job until the injury bug depleted that unit. Granted, we had some personnel issues as well, but those personnel issues were magnified x10 b/c of chitty play calling & indecisive clock mgmt.

Both Gattis & Steele were extremely underwhelming. Gattis gets all the heat b/c just how anemic the offense was & unimaginative his play calling was, but Steele also called some pretty **** poor games, as well.

U can argue in favor of Steele that he inherited a bad, undisciplined defense from his predecessor, which is y I won’t go, too, in on him, but Gattis? It’s unfathomable in today’s landscape of football, even w/ some of the most depleted, subpar rosters in FBS, being unable to score a TD in how many quarters?? Injuries or not, that’s bush league under any circumstance.
Gattis needs to run a 9 route clear up I95 and never ever look back.

... or realized that we would not be able to run the style they wanted to out of the gate. The OL wasn't a world beater in 21, but they at least were serviceable (for the passing game anyway).

So they flipped a coin and it amazingly landed on its side resulting in the worst offense we had almost since they started tracking stats…

My only hope is that Mario saw the ***** in his interview process armor and made the adjustments to sniff out some new or additional modes of confirming/justifying his next OC pick

We all agree Gattis was awful. Question, if we didn’t know better, would we not think based upon what we saw, that Mirabel was an atrocious Oline coach, and Strong and Addae were total idiots based upon lb and secondary play?

i do think Gattis is a bad fit here, but he was given a bad hand as well. Speaking to someone inside program, all the coaches ( including Mario) were stunned out side of a few guys ( Kam, X few others) the lack of commitment by the roster. Just a total lack of work ethic which carried over from Manny.

We either believe all of these coaches ( many of which we know are very good) suddenly became total incompetents, or the logical alternative there was a total lack of buy-in by the coddled players.

Lastly, as many have opined, Gattis is 100% gone just a matter of obtaining a good solution for all parties.
For whatever reason I thought the same thing. Every position group looked like there was zero coaching. The question is why? Take the secondary for example. How many coverage busts were there last year? Should have been an easy fix. Strong is a good defensive coach in my opinion but the whole defense looked like they were lost. Has to be an easy answer I would think. Look at the QB's. How bad was TVD after 2021 and Garcia looked capable of being a quality back up. But both guys struggled big time last season. I thought Ponce was decent at App st. I have no idea what is going on with Gattis.

This understates how BAD the QB room is/was…

We went from TVD first round pick, to Jake in 2023, Brown developing and a strong room to:

WTF…

Ok. Ok….What about if Mario can get him to call more flea flickers next season? Say, once per series? Can we get you back on board??

Not a Gattis fan, but also acknowledge offense was a mess between lack of talent and injuries. Call someone a fraud seems extreme.
I agree, who on our offense, healthy players who played, would start on another ACC team? We weren't all that talented last year.

It took him 2 - 3 years at Michigan to get that offense going. i'm expecting a big improvement this year if he stays just because of the improvement from the Oline.
Adding Weiss , Sherrone Moore being involved and JH being more involved is why they made the jump. They brought in Weiss for a reason. JH was on the hot seat after 2020 season. The offense was the biggest issue .

It was just so bizarre how many units were abysmal at the same time.

I wasn’t happy with the defense but at least guys like Steele and Strong have a history of running great defenses in the past. They’ve shown they’re at least capable. Gattis has now been an OC for four years. Three of them sucked.

When your installing a new system and You don’t have the players to execUte it. You have to go slowly and tailor it to the units strengths. Work the new system in slowly while getting the most out of it by playing to strengths. There’s plenty of ways to go about it.

what he did was opposite.

didn’t have the players to execute and went full in on it. That usually ends bad as it did last year.

Miribal get a bit of a pass with the injuries of Zion, and then all the other injuries.

Gattis was missing those guys too but did nothing to make those guys better, did nothing schematically to help the wr’s, and the play calling was abysmal.

Look no further than our 2020 and 2021 offenses. Our 2020 offense was built around D’Eriq King’s athleticism. Our line was poor, we had Pope and Wiggins starting at receiver but Rhett Lashlee was able to scheme up an offense that finished 26th in the nation in scoring. We ran the ball more than we threw it and maximized an offensive team that had one NFL player on it in Brevin Jordan.

In 2021, King got hurt and we lost every running back besides Knighton by mid season. Lashlee unleashed TVD and the vertical passing offense exploded. That team finished 23rd in scoring. They still had a weak offensive line and despite great numbers from Rambo and Harley, neither was deemed worthy of a draft pick. So Lashlee was able to squeeze 34 points per game out of an offense with one, maybe two NFL caliber players. Good coaches get the most from their players and the players, in turn, buy into what the coaches are teaching because it works.

To start the season we had average at best players starting. By the end of the season we were playing third stringers because of injuries.

He gets an incomplete from me.
We got dominated by MTSU people lmao. Any team of average ACC players should be able to soundly beat MTSU. You don’t need blue chips 3 deep.

We played three teams that finished inside the top 25 and lost by a combined 127- 29. But I guess Pitt just had soooo much more talent
