The players we get at Miami, mostly from South Florida, are SOFT. They come in soft, and they leave even more soft. But it's up to the coaches to change that.
We need a coach who is a heartless savage to ever succeed here.
You start by making an example out of a high profile offender. Take the biggest alpha male, the most respected, revered, natural leader of the loafers.... and destroy his life in a very public and obvious way. You cut him from the team, expel him from the school, and trash/blacklist him to the media. You call other schools and trash talk him. If he fails a drug test, you say publicly on ESPN that he's a lazy drug user and ruin his reputation. And - here's the important part - you do it in front of his friends and teammates and their families. You take him down in front of them so that they start to fear you.
Then you take total total control of the team. Make players ask you permission for everything. Don't let them wipe their *** without your approval. Make them totally dependent on you.
Don't let them form cliques or hang out with each other outside of practice. Punish cliques mercilessly.
You want to create an air of distrust, envy, and competition among players... you don't want them to be buddies. You want them to hate each other and do anything they can to please you.
Be unpredictable with your punishments. Have some players who are favorites, and others who are in the doghouse, for no apparent reason except to be unpredictable. Some days, be their best friend. Other days, fly off the handle.
I could go on. The idea is to get total psychological control of the team by creating a culture of fear and dependence.
This is basically in a nutshell the Nick Saban school of coaching. It's a heartless and savage mentality that ******* works.
