Cross one off the list - Butch to retire

I guess revisionist history is on your side my friend. Going into Lousiana, Canada, all over, all while having limited scholarships. If you say kids still loved the u, why did it drop off so fast once he left?
Sports Illustrated called for UMs Destruction
Parents and their Kids were avoiding UM like the plague...
Marlin Barnes murder "On Campus"
31 schollies
No TV or Bowl for a yr....What a coincidence that our irrelevance started as the last of Butch's kids left UM.....Facts are Facts....

He didn’t win a **** thing while he had them. He was average to awful until he had a full roster.

You were there, you know how much kids loved the U back then. He wasn’t trying to rebuild at UConn.

What don’t you get?

You're god**** right I was there. "How much kids loved the U back then"? Like when LaVar Arrington was scared out of picking Miami by Chuckie Amato's secret FedEx package of articles related to the Marlin Barnes murder?

Look, man, I try to be respectful of your opinions, I know you are a fan. But you are mixing and matching metaphors. You are trying to empty your bowels on Butch's COACHING by acting like his RECRUITING was some incredibly easy job.

But break this down into parts. Recruiting is not just about "convincing a guy to pick your college". If that was the case, then Eric "Otter" Stratton would have been the best football coach ever. Butch had to make the most out of his limited scholarships, which meant nailing a "hit rate" on his recruits that was almost unprecedented. I don't know how many millions of times it needs to be repeated, but the system that Butch and Pete developed to scout, compile information, and track recruits across multiple years was unbelievably successful and fruitful. And the DEVELOPMENT of those players followed. You MISTAKENLY try to compress and minimize all of those efforts into one word, "recruiting", and then dismiss it all because "kids loved the U back then".

As for Butch's COACHING, which had its strengths and weaknesses, you act as if "coaching" cannot (or should not) be impacted by a less-than-full roster. So, as I have previously challenged, feel free to name any college coach who is FINE with a partial roster. Who relishes practicing and playing games with a partial roster. Who is not disproportionately impacted by injuries when playing with a partial roster. The reality is that Butch was doing a GREAT job of coaching and developing the players he had for ALL years he led Miami, but the OUTCOME OF GAMES was certainly pre-ordained when you play 11 to 12 games WITH A PARTIAL ROSTER.

But I'll set aside all of your incorrect OPINIONS if you would just be honest ON THE FACTS.

"He didn’t win a **** thing while he had them. He was average to awful until he had a full roster."

UNTRUE.

In 1995, we finished TIED FOR FIRST IN THE BIG EAST. Self-bowl-ban.
In 1996, we finished TIED FOR FIRST IN THE BIG EAST.
In 1998, we finished TIED FOR SECOND IN THE BIG EAST.
In 1999, we finished SECOND IN THE BIG EAST.
In 2000, we finished FIRST IN THE BIG EAST.

That means, in 5 of 6 years that Butch coached, Miami finished first or second in the Big East.

Pretty good. Pretty, pretty good.

And, YES, I would have preferred to beat East Carolina twice instead of losing twice. I would have wanted to have scored one extra TD against VaTech in 1995 and 1998. Everyone already knows how I feel about the Chafie Fields game, and I would have loved it if we had a couple of extra minutes on the game clock against Washington in 2000.

But 3 firsts and 2 seconds in 6 years is pretty impressive, when weighed against 31 lost scholarships.

Wtf are you talking about. Kids loved the U and no SI cover changed that.

And I respect Butch, just not the revisionist history like yours.

You know what is revisionist history?

Ignoring the fact that Butch led Miami to 3 first place Big East finishes and 2 second place Big East finishes in 5 of his 6 years coaching at UM. And claiming that first and second place finishes in 5 out of 6 years constitutes "average to awful".

Because, yeah, then THAT would be "revisionist history"...

What some Miami fans think and say about Butch is legend….but actual Butch Davis not a legend. He could have been but he chose the NFL.
He put more AAs...1st rounders and HOFers into the NFL and Canton than Howard..JJ & Erickson combined....who ALL by the way, ran to the NFL or in Howard's case the WFL....They ALL ran for more $$$ and get passes, but Butch doesn't...Gotcha....

The Big East? Dude. Come on.

He was 0-10 over 5 years against V Tech and FSU. An overwhelming number by blowout loss.

Beating up or scraping by teams like Temple, Rutgers and BC in a since disbanded conference means exactly what in comparison?

They won championships. Butch didn’t finish the job. Great coach. But not a legend. He’s behind Howard, JJ, and Erickson.

If the BOT wasn't trying to cheap out and not pay him what he was worth he would've stayed. Now given what he built tell me one reason he didn't deserve to be the highest paid coach in the game. I'll wait.
The article states his salary would have made him the 3rd highest paid HC in the country. The buy outs seemed to be the sticking point. And why would he worry about the year one buyout?

More revisionist history from you.

Sure, being an Independent is fine when you win 4 National Championships. And you certainly won't ****e on a Big East championship when Miami fields the best college football team of all time.

Meanwhile, during this "five game losing streak" against F$U, the SemenHoles won a National Championship and played for the NC multiple other times. LOSING TO A TOP-FIVE-RANKED BETTER TEAM is not some mark of "average to awful", it is the EXPECTED OUTCOME.

I'm sorry, but your porsts pretty much DEFINE revisionist history when you act as if a team that has lost 31 scholarships should be beating a Top-5 ranked team.

Sorry, but you can't have it both ways. You either respect what we did in the Big East, or you turn in your Cane Card. Every conference has its weak sisters, and you don't get to ****e all over Butch "because Temple/Rutgers".

You get humiliated every time you do this, but you keep smashing your eggshell head into a factual wall.

Two things can be true at the same time.

Butch Davis was a GREAT coach.
Butch Davis is no longer a great coach.
51-20 W-L record with Miami.
24-25 with FIU. And I get that FIU isnt Maimi. But the competition is lower there as well. This isnt slander on Davis. Just the numbers.

Dude the team got booed relentlessly. For years they looked like a discombobulated mess.

They flew a banner calling for Butch’s head not hailing our glorious 2nd place finish in the Big East.

I, like you were there for it. That’s not revising anything.

He wanted more $$ for his staff as well (well deserved I might add)....Hence him taking Chuck to Cleveland with him...and Moffitt leaving for LSU....
