Cristobal on his trip to Miami

I'm getting to the point where I feel like if we DON'T pull Luigi that what will result will essentially be the end of the program because that's how stupidly we play our hand so I'm almost out of energy hoping for or debating alternatives to him.
I know 90% of us would still be very happy with Lane, but in my opinion, there is no way we hire him especially after this ring around the rosie regarding the AD hire.

Folks that mattered didn’t like Mullen or the Pirate’s personality. Lane is as smug as either if not more. On top of his asterisk of banging Saban’s daughter and him chasing college snatch around like a Bloodhound. Lane as HC would be a lot of fun for a couple years but I’m not even entertaining the thought.

If Mario says no there’s no chance we hire Lane. Maybe we interview him to please the masses temporarily, but it probably moves to Stoops and then Tom Herman.

Momma telling him to "you better that thing around"? We know what she's really referring to. ;)

I'm starting to buy it. If USC could wait for Lincoln Riley for three months, why can't we wait a week for Mario and our AD?
Not sure we ever will but I'd love to know the real details of how that went down. I'd guess months ago he agreed and I'd also guess that their AD was only involved once it was a done deal. I'm not sure who Riley's agent is but USC power brokers obviously are connected to CAA and many other agencies and may have been able to keep it so quiet due to that.

I wouldn't exactly call that poignant or even that coherent and that's no disrespect to Cristobal or anyone dealing with a family illness. It's just not that unique a mindset in the world of sports or even business to put the job first and honor your "commitments".
That there was only an English version and not a Spanish version too tells me everything I need to know about the culture at Oregon.

He’s coming home

Mario is not going to take our job or even entertain questions around it until Saturday at the earliest. He has a great relationship with Oregon and Phil Knight and will leave on the best of terms possible. That includes seeing out this P12 Championship.

Interesting take. I'm not saying it's not the case, but I would personally think an AD with full hiring autonomy would be far more likely to keep this quiet than USC's "power brokers".

From what I've gathered, that place hasn't operated much differently than us until very recently. Which is exactly why we need to follow what I perceive as their example of hiring a properly experienced and energetic AD and granting him the authority to do the job he was hired to do.

Interesting he used the chess not checkers reference he obliviously reads the board.
I just envisioned him in the football offices at Oregon reading some of our comments on here from those of us that maybe aren't his biggest advocates and Mirabal having to run to calm him down after he hears him screaming from the OL meeting room.

I’m a Lane Kiffin type dude myself…..but I feel like we going to pull Mario. Like I feel it a lot….in my brain that’s what Miami is going to do after the PAC 12 game.

AD in place this week and Mario on Monday.

I hope he recruits here as well as you all expect.

I hope he’s learned from all of his stops. Many, myself included, question the game day calls from this man.

But honestly if we are truly stacking the roster with actual chips and some real players we would probably just out talent the ACC into a few Coastal and ACC titles.

We’ve always had the best or 2nd best roster in the ACC since we joined…but let’s be real. A lot of them dudes were jags.

Honestly that’s why the Highsmith/ Cristobal combo could be so sick. Highsmith is one of the best in the business at identifying and scouting talent, Cristobal is one of the best at getting them to sign.

I just don’t want Highsmith sidetracked worrying about tennis or basketball or some other ****.

Just football. Getting the right players in, and getting them developed while they’re here to their max potential
