Cristobal hasn't landed 1 big name SoFla local kid to Bama

Mario is a slick talker and great recruiter. Don't kid yourself. He would've helped in recruiting. He has great relationships with a lot of the HS coaches too.

That being said, ***** him for what he did to the Don

Yeah he wouldve "helped" in recruiting, at Miami, in the sense that he wasnt going to make it harder to recruit.... but his hire wasnt going to make it easier to recruit s. florida players either.

He has nowhere near the same level of impact that James Coley had.... J. Yearby committed almost immediately after Coley came to UM. When Cristobal left he didnt take any recruits with him b/c none of the recruits that Miami was recruiting were ever recruited by him.

Now at Bama his job is to re-establish himself in S. Florida w/ the elite athletes but he has to start almost completely from scratch in that regard where Al Golden and his staff are firmly rooted in S. Florida. J. Stoutland had more pull as a recruiter then Cristobal.

This. Mario Cristobal is Judas. He's dead to me.

Yes, because he chose the welfare of his family over his loyalty to a school, he's a Judas. Brilliant logic there, champ.

i dont think it had anything to do w/ the "welfare of his family" b/c i'm sure the guy has made a lot of money already and was going to make enough to maintain his quality of life.

I just think he felt what i thought about the hire, which was it wasnt a good fit for him to be here in the 1st place.... and i dont think he should have ever been hired here. I dont consider him a "traitor" or anything like that either b/c he had NO impact here at all and wasnt going to have any sort of an impact thats different or more then what this staff was already going to have.

Cristobal knows he isnt a **** TE coach and this vague associate Head Coach tag was going to mess up the chemistry of this staff imo.

We'll have to agree to disagree. On basically everything you said.

He was going to have a big impact here. Great recruiter. Maybe not a great TE coach, but would've been a beast recruiting with AG and Coley.

I could care less what he's doing or in this case, not doing elsewhere. All I know is if we was here we'd have a greater possibility to land kids here in sofla that are highly regarded.

Hit it right on the head. Also it's August.

Thank you. Two of the few sane posts in this thread. The guy is a stud recruiter, we can never forget that, and I am sure that the Don knows that.

I keep seeing hate towards Mario and Butch for leaving. I guess you guys are better souls than I am, because if someone offered me a promotion with double, triple, quadruple, quintuple the money, I doubt I would turn it down, and I dont blame Butch and Mario either, although I agree that Mario burned his bridges.

It's still August. Alabama has 6 months to sway any recruits. I don't think they will necessarily however cristobal is a great recruiter and you don't even need to be a great recruiter to sell recruits on going to Alabama

Everyone was saying that Cristobal was going to steal a ton of players from South Fla and bring them over with him to Bama I haven't seen 1 kid sign with them yet. I think he would have helped a ton if he would have stayed but his impact hasn't been felt through recruiting yet.

Signing day has not even occurred...wtf are you talking about?
Stupid post.

I don't wanna find out, but I think Cristobal would be a lead candidate for HC is Al moved to the leauge

I would take Coley over that Benedict **** face. He lost all his Dade county privileges. I don't want a head corch who can't see the forest through the trees. That mother ****** left his alma mater, his city, and his family hanging for a couple hundred K more a year when he could have had ten times that if he stuck it out till Golden left. Let him rot in Bama till his next head coach gig at somewhere like Western Michigan. He could have had a 2 mil a year gig, in his home town, coaching a program that will be humming on all 12 cylinders by the time Golden moves on. All he had to do was be patient, but he couldn't wait to jump into sac with that midget ****** coach in Tuscaloosa.

Stupid mother ******.

I wish these coaches were independently minded and had the balls to resist the SEC.

In my opinion there are a ton of jobs in college football that are SEC-resistant or could be SEC-resistant. Mind you, this mad dash to the SEC is a very recent phenomenon. Heck, even Spurrier said after he left the Redskins, he was hoping to get the job at North Carolina (ACC). Charlie Strong, curved the SEC so now Louisville's biggest competition for his services is any NFL Team willing to shake things up.

Personallly, I feel ESPN has brainwashed these kids and coaches to believing it's SEC or Bust and that's simply not the case. Back when Miami was winning championships, you heard none of this crap. When USC was a dominant, you heard none of this noise.

So if Cristobal, shunned his alma mater to get a resume bump rather than earn it with coaching success outside of that conference, it suits him fine that he's not making any headway into South Florida. When Penn State job opened up, Al Golden had the good sense to realize that leaving Miami would be akin to trading a prized stock before it blew up....only a fool would short-sale.

Maybe it's something i'm missing about Mario Cristobal b/c i dont understand why ppl think this is the case? He hasnt built any relationships w/ the elite players in south florida for YEARS.... James Coley, Al Golden, Hurlie Brown, Michael Barrow, have more of a positive impact on recruiting then Cristobal does in the present.

I'm not saying he cant recruit b/c he can but he would have to start from scratch of building relationships with players when other guys at other schools and at UM currently already have those relationships here in south florida.

Now when he recruits he can use the Bama name to help him build those relationships and he knows that he is the main guy that is responsible for S. FLorida, unlike at UM, he probably felt like he would be in the way of Coley, Golden, Brown, and Barrow b/c they recruit the same area he does.

Why couldn't he coach TE's? What made Hurlie Brown a RB coach? What made Brennan Carroll a WR coach? If he coached OL and was a head coach, I'm sure he knows enough about the TE position.

I don't blame Cristobal for going when it made such a big difference salary-wise, plus he's going to get better exposure for future NFL jobs as OL coach at Alabama than TE coach at Miami. He made the right decision from his point of view. I just think of the irony given how badly he was mauled by the Alabama DE in that 93 Sugar Bowl.
