Yep - I thought Blades was solid as well as Couch when he got in. Keontra and Bubba looked good.

Ivey was lucky he wasn’t burned for 2-3 TDs. His technique was terrible in some of the plays.

Agreed. Ivey looked bad, and it looked like UAB was picking on him. Defense as a whole looked lackluster. Even when they looked good it felt it was due to better talent overall. What my non coach eyes saw, it’s not going to cut it from here on out.
 
Is there a word worse then atrocious?

I can only come up with an acronym “UM OL”.

Outside of Blades, who’s limited athletically but makes it up in effort, the rest are absolutely, completely, solidified JAGs.
Ivey can’t even cover the charge a Tootsies.
How Rumph still has a job, I will never know.
 
Didn’t see nothing but Ivey’s back number all game-struggling to make up ground, when he was already three steps behind BEAT BAD. This is what I hate about football and basketball in America. We celebrate ideal size over inherent talent, skill, and mentality- to a fault. It’s COMICAL. Ivey plays soft and heartless. Who the **** cares about his wingspan, 3 cone, or ceiling?- @DMoney. The best player in the biggest sport In the world is 5’7” 135 pounds soaking wet and loses his ******* mind when he gets ripped by one dude after making six look stupid.
 
If it wasn't for Blades last name he wouldn't get half the love on here.

I watched him get beat inside on back-to-back plays tonight. (like he did a ton last year) At least on the second play he recovered and punched the ball out.
He also dropped a relatively easy INT on the deep ball. Glad to see he at least turned around for it though.

The FIRST THING you can't do in man coverage is get beat INSIDE yet ALL OF OUR CORNERS have struggled with this.
I don't know if it's Diaz or Rumph, but whoever's teaching this loose version of press coverage ("catch man") needs to fvckin' go. **** is garbage.
We get beat on slants by D1AA WR's.

Let these kids put their hands on WR's!
Blades should be an elite press Corner by now. He's long and built like a brick ****house.
He's being severely under-developed IMO.

Yet our plethora of 4 star WRs couldnt separate from an Ivy league secondary.

@Coach Macho .....its just like last yr, except switched around...Last yr FIU (Butch) TOOK away the slants...and Enos Dumbazz looked dazed and confused on how to combat that.....Now this yr we're getting BEAT on Slants...and Baker & Company have no answer....You can't make this up...

That's just straight up TECHNIQUE my man.

We play "catch man". It's like a shadow technique.
Watch our CB's when you get a chance. They line-up in the face of the WR, but they never actually get their hands on them.
It's press coverage...without the press.

The way it was taught to me in the many CB clinics I've been to is...

Playing press is like being a defender in basketball who's trying to take a charge, only you get to use your hands.
When the WR releases, you shuffle/side-step in the same direction, effectively putting your body in the way of his release...plus using your hand(s) to press him.
This forces him to RUN THROUGH the CB to get his release. This impedes his process and slows down the route.
You're not backing up (or going forward) as the WR releases, you're simply side-stepping in his way and punching his shoulder. This turns the WR's upper torso, and as we all know, you can't run full speed with your shoulders turned.

Our CB's however, just dance with the WR at the line-of-scrimmage and let him free release.

Then there is both.

No, that was Couch that caused the fumble (#23). From where I was sitting, my view got blocked from the player pile up. I couldn’t tell who accidentally kicked the ball out.
Defense left 3 turnovers on the table.
 
we have skinny little dudes playing corner, I would give keontra and Gurvan a look and play more physical

That fumble was actually caused by Couch. He got completely fooled on the play and got burned but recovered nicely to knock the ball out.

Macho is spot on here. For the life of me I cant understand why Blades is letting guys get inside over and over in his 3rd year. And he's probably our best CB which is scary
