With Ole Miss on the horizon I wanted to circle back on a thread I started last year when Heatherman was hired
Ole Miss is the #1 offense we will play all season so the timing was on my mind
One thing I usually look at with DCs is how their defense does compared to the other teams average
There’s no perfect stats out there but always found this exercise handy and Heatherman overwhelmingly held teams under their season averages last year
So how has he done so far this year leading up to the toughest test of the season?
(Spoiler: this **** is absurd)
Team AvgY Miami AvgP Miami Net
ND 459 314 42 24 -145/18
USF 488 331 41 13 -157/28
UF 341 140 22 7 -201/15
FSU 472 404 33 22 -68/11
LOU 385 367 30 24 -18/6
STA 307 144 19 7 -163/12
SMU 417 388 32 20(reg) -29/12
SYR 340 285 20 10 -55/10
NCST 392 143 30 7 -249/23
VT 349 395 21 17 +46/-4
PIT 391 229 34 7 -162/27
TAM 445 326 34 3 -119/31
OSU 423 332 33 14 -91/19
Takeaways:
Average -109 yards per game
Average -17 points per game
We faced SIX Top 30 offenses in those games:
Average -102 yards per game
Average -20 points per game
Read that again
-20 points per game against the top 6 offenses we faced
We allowed ONE team to gain more yards than their average the entire season (VT without Scott and Thomas)
ONE team gained over 400 yards (FSU had 203 in the 4th quarter)
ZERO teams scored more points than their average
SEVEN teams averaged over 100 yards less than their average
ELEVEN teams averaged over 10 points less than their average
Whatever happens against Ole Miss this dude is without question the Broyles Award Winner this year and should be absurdly compensated this offseason
If Heathermans agent wants to compensate me I’ll send him my email
