Corey Flagg vs Clemson (video)

He diagnoses plays faster than other linebackers but he lacks lateral quickness and is on the small side for an ILB. He will get stronger but he can he improve his quickness sideline-to-sideline.
Truth.

Mlb is the heart of our defense and has the most responsibility, he played surprisingly well for a true fr.

I'm just saying as a prospect that's not Miami caliber man. Like man the standards have fallen.....I just think this video is so people can lay off the kid. That's all it is.....like I get it I know what he is and nothing's changing that I don't want to have to repeat it 100 times. But then they do this

What is Miami caliber these days? The LB recruits (minus McCloud) have all been from this current defensive staff. If Flagg is getting burn over them already, it's very telling about this staff's ability to identify, recruit and develop.

As i said in another thread, Flagg is not ready. He's looks tiny out there, like a high schooler playing against college kids. He's nowhere near strong enough. When a blocker gets on him, it's over. But for a few plays, you saw he has better instincts than both of the starting LBs combined. He saw it and attacked. You didn't see the routine false steps and missed keys. So eventhough i agree that he's probably not the athlete Miami has recruited in the past, we are not living in the past. We are living here today with a program that has underproduced for 15 years....and we can only play who we have.

I would have been happy seeing Brooks flanked by Smith and Frierson but that's not going to happen either. We needed speed against Clemson but continued to give cushion that wasn't needed and play guys in space that couldn't handle slots/Etienne in space.

Flagg playing in that game helps us in recruiting immensely to. (Although that’s not why they played him) he’s the man in Houston. One of his teammates text me during the game asking if I seen 11 out there and saying he would lock **** up in our D

This is it right here.
The mental skills and processing speed are apparent which alone puts him ahead of McCloud
Now as he grows and gets faste rand stronger, can his physical skills match his mental acuity? That will need to be answered over the next few years.
I would argue that Shaq was similar and reached a point we need by his junior year.

because of what our d line is asked to do, we need someone stout in the middle. i really liked what i saw from brooks as wlb, and think a flagg-brooks combo has plenty of outside speed when paired with frierson/smith at striker.
Our D line isn’t going to occupy blockers to keep the MLB clean so we need a dude who can navigate through the mess and get off blocks. I think Flagg has some potential if he can put in the weight room work.

Are Clemson's white linebackers Miami Talent??

I'll keep making his argument until you realize that talent don't mean **** if you don't know what to ******* do.

McCloud is more talented thn Clemson's white linebackers, but they are better football players.

I want football players

Slow and small. Just shows how ****ed up this LB room is. His instincts will not make up for that speed. How did we go through 4 years of shaq and decided we needed to be slower?

Shaq used to get lauded for making tackles 8 yards downfield. Rooting for him but let's hope he gets bigger, faster. I know he's coming off knee surgery during the spring.

Are we recruiting these guys to take advantage of that?

How delightfully Mark D’Onofrio of you.

To be honest he looks much faster than what people were dogging him for. Now with that being said he did play alright. Biggest thing with being a freshman is all selling out on the run. Will get smashed on PA/screen plays until he's gets a better feel. But refreshing to see the instinct is there. Going to be fun to monitor him through the year when he starts getting more burn. I'm excited about the young man, that counter play where he snuffed it out in blink was nice. Can't wait to see more Austin-Cave as well. Give me more of Brooks, Huff, Flagg, TAC
Having football smarts makes you look fast, period. I've been preaching it for years. If you have a guy that runs a 4.4 but hesitates, or goes the wrong way, his speed is useless. Give me a 4.65 guy that is always in the right place at the right time and he'll look a **** of a lot faster than the other dude that can only showcase his speed when chasing someone from behind.

For some positions yes, this sounds a lot like the classic dnofrio argument about the best safety theybever had haha
