MEGA Conference Realignment and lawsuits Megathread: Stories, Tales, Lies, and Exaggerations

But they’re never going to be considered G level in terms of rankings and all that. Would a future TV deal be that bad? Seems like a lot of programs there with a history and a strong fanbase as is. Nothing crazy but we’re not talking about the Mountain West here

Yes we are.

From ND's perspective, the Big 12 and the MWC are not that different. "Strong fanbases". ND doesn't give a **** about the "strong fanbases" of the Big 12.

Lol well everyone is considered G status to the mighty fighty Irish. It’s their world and we’re just living in it..so they think.

I guess, as of now, I don’t see there only being 2 power conferences as long as the Big 12 remains intact and achieves some degree of success, although they’re clearly the weakest conference right now in my opinion and yes I do think the ACC is better despite hating on it. But the ACC will not last. Once it crumbles, the other three will get the majority of its programs and maybe someone gets left behind like an Oregon State or Washington State type situation. Yes the SEC/BIG will get all the love in the rankings and ESECPN will wave their pom poms next to their little brother Big 12. Then everyone else is G status…then FCS…

Just my thoughts

Mizzou, Kentucky and Miss State are spenders. I’d add Minnesota to that group too. Rutgers, Purdue and Maryland definitely have some big decisions to make. I’d imagine the Big 10 leadership has told those schools they must step up. I know Vandy was told that by the SEC and look at them. Winning 9 games and signing a 5 star QB.
I mean didn’t the Big East boot Temple out of its league? And UConn? I’d have to look it up. The idea of some current SEC/BIG slackers is highly unlikely but not completely out of the question if these 2 leagues are going to claim superiority.

If you think that the Big East, which was a 1980s basketball conference that bolted on a football grouping in an attempt to be relevant, is the functional equivalent of 100-year-old academic/all-sports conferences kicking out founding members, you are nuts.

Say, didn’t Penn State want to join the Big East but the Big East (or its members) voted no?😂

I’m sure you know more about this stuff than me but just knowing PSU got denied access to the Big Easy several years ago is a little comical for many reasons.

Everything about realignment is nuts so I’m just contributing to the nutty. I imagine few people saw UCLA getting BIG membership or we’d even be in this bizarre state years ago. If anyone did then ****, you must have been a genius as it feels like, especially recently, everyone is waiting for a domino to fall, a call to come in, someone to totally ***** over in fear of being left out. A lot is still up in the air in my humble opinion and nothing seems certain as regards to who goes where and why. Google it and you’ll get 1000 different opinions and mock realignment charts. I mean Stanford is playing in the ACC right now and we’re opening there on a Friday night. This is very, very nutty my dear friend..

In an ongoing effort to equate the game ND would play against the Big 10 to those they would play against the Big 12, you are grasping at straws.

When you spoke of the Big East booting out members, the Big East of 1982 is completely different than the Big East of the 2000s. The same cannot be said of the Big 10 and the SEC, which have had stable (though growing) membership rosters.

There were 8 Big East schools in 1982 who voted on Pedo State, exactly 2 of which played Division I-A football. But, sure, without providing dates or context, you are going to try to imply that these events are similar and/or comparable to what is happening in 2026 with the Big 10 and SEC.

Ridiculous. It's the same nonsense that people engage in when they trick themselves into believing that 2025 TV ratings will lead a conference into ejecting member schools who founded the conference 100 years ago.

Hey, believe what you want to believe. It's still a bunch of silliness that is never going to happen.

To be honest I’m not really arguing with you on this point. I was mostly just taking a jab at Penn State. Perhaps one thing I might disagree with you on is tradition mattering when it comes to realignment because thus far, it hasn’t. Many rivalries and relationships have been torn up and scrapped for the sake of the almighty dollar. I don’t know if being a 100 year old conference really matters much when all that’s mattered so far is money.

If kicking out Rutgers (I agree it is very unlikely) meant more money and benefits to the conference as a whole, and you don’t run into major legal hurdles, I don’t see it completely out of the question. This is simply a “never say never” approach I’m taking. Not trying to go to battle with you as I’ve already admitted you know more than I do about these matters since you’ve been posting in this specific thread for years.

Fair enough. I agree with you on "traditional games".

But the TRADITION of making tens of millions (possibly hundreds of millions) from academic research (and also sports programming, to a lesser extent) is much more powerful. And there is no way in **** that schools like Northwestern or Vanderbilt will ever be kicked out.

I really think that people continue to overlook the fact that the ACADEMIC RESEARCH revenue that the Big 10 brings in is much larger than the "TV revenue" that the Big 10 brings in.

Highly doubtful that Rutgers would ever be forced out, let alone Northwestern/Vanderbilt.

24 teams is coming. 10/11 game P4 schedules are coming. Conference governance is coming. Realignment is coming. This season will be seismic on and off the field. And miami is positioned perfectly to capitalize.

Requiring 10 games against P4 opponents is the first sensible thing Sankey has done. I'm all on board with that. Also, I am for the expansion of the playoffs as long as some of the old bowls (as they currently do in the CFP) are used as sone of the games to preserve some of the tradition.
