BASEBALL IS A PROFESSIONAL SPORT WITH A CBA AND NO SALARY CAP. And the exemption was given, over 100 years ago, in a Supreme Court case. And NOT by a bribed Congress.

That's like comparing apples to oranges.
 
Seems clear that the SEC will not tolerate losing on the highest levels, which multiple of us predicted if the B10 (or Miami) won again.

The SEC cannot dominate (and may not be able to compete) in an era where every school with money can compensate players fairly.

I would 100% let them walk themselves off a cliff into a little sub-league. Let the rest of the country play football without them.

Apples to oranges until they start arguing whether or not college football is in reality a professional sport for all intents and purposes.

Hence why I mentioned IF the law passes, there will be plenty of lawsuits. I'm sure one of which will make it to the Supreme Court regarding constitutionality based on anti-trust law. The Court either rejects precedent, as it has recently in some cases, and takes away baseball's anti-trust exemption or it allows the anti-trust exemptions to go through for college ball.

Like you said, it would be much quicker and cleaner for the powers that be in college football to handle this themselves, but like with NIL, they seem to prefer getting the government and courts involved to settle their issues.

When I was a kid, it was the time of the B1G vs PAC 10 champs playing each other in the Rose Bowl every year (the "Granddaddy of them All"). I always thought what a bunch of sanctimonious, entitled ******** those 20 schools were to think they were better than the rest of college ball. They wouldn't join the Bowl Coalition at first because of it, but they eventually relented and joined the Bowl Coalition because their schools ended up missing out on national titles (1994 Ped State).

It would not be surprising to see the $EC come to a similar realization should they go out on their own.

they'll just play each other and claim a fake national championship that no one cares about

they talk about being the most competitive and strongest yet theyre the ones canceling games with everyone left and right

They see themselves going off and being successful, but the likelihood of failure is extremely high and they have to know that.

It’s been pretty obvious the past few years that the SEC is living off their reputation that’s no longer valid. Getting 1/2 the playoff field last season then only being able to beat fellow SEC teams (& Tulane) is embarrassing. Their conference hasn’t made a title game since the 2022 season.

As bad as the ACC is, we went 8-6 (should have been 9-5, but GT got hosed @ UGA) against the SEC last season. We went 7-5 against them the season before.

The SEC has a commissioner with too much power that’s given them every opportunity to succeed. The pre-season ranking game they play ensures 1/2 their conference is ranked all season and inflates their SOS. Them not playing OOC games anymore only strengthens that ranking bs without the risk of losing to non-conference opponents.

The SEC has 3 tier 1 programs and multiple tier 2 programs. They’re still a top conference. Acting like they’re gods gift to CFB is nauseating though and way overplayed.

I'm not sure that is quite it.

I believe "they" see another NFL barreling down the pike.

Yes, that will undoubtedly create different tax brackets for a few athletes, but I suspect long-term, provide less opportunities overall for a greater number of athletes, not only in futböl, but other sports, as well.

It's a bluff. At the end of the day, they're a regional conference without most major media markets. They know their brand is unsustainable being on their own.

Facts. And now Miami under Mario keeps coming into their states and taking some of the best athletes. Payback is a *****.
 
Wouldn't be totally shocked if the "Magnificent 7" (UM, Clem, UNC, NCSU, UVA, VT and fsu) are gathering at the exit door with the ACC's June 1 withdrawal "deadline" just a few days away.

It'd be $129M for the get out of jail card, but the departees control their media rights.

The seven schools create an "alliance" along with Duke and GT beginning in Fall 2027 while waiting for the SEC and B1G to move forward with their inevitable expansions.

Much easier for all parties to make those moves when there's no red tape to escape

Substitute "Duke" for "NCSU", and then add Georgia Tech to the Elite 8.

Duke has already offered to take zero-point-zero from the Big 10 for a number of years.

I'd bet (half) money that Miami will be forced to take a half-share. Not out of any blemish against UM, but because of market forces.
