MEGA Conference Realignment and lawsuits Megathread: Stories, Tales, Lies, and Exaggerations

I just don’t see the Big 10 getting rid of any of its “legacy” members.
Maybe Rutgers leaves at some point, giving up on FBS altogether if it can’t get a life raft to get out of the hole.
But the Big 10 also rans are not going anywhere (Iowa, Purdue, Indiana, Northwestern, etc). Those schools help in the academic area and beyond that, they are needed to help prop up the 3-4 teams at the top.
Its laughable thinking big 10 is getting rid of founding members that dates back 125 years. Indiana is the current champ. Lol

Never say never. Ask Washington State and Oregon State 5 years ago if they thought their fellow PAC 12 members would leave them for greener pastures. Ok, it was only a conference for 110 years, maybe the extra 15 years of existence will ensure the B1G loyalty.

Money can tear any relationship apart. With the number of B1G teams still running in a deficit and USC & Michigan already telling the rest of the conference to slow their roll with the private equity deal, I wouldn't be surprised to see more turmoil in their future.

While I'd prefer the SEC, I do think hosting teams like:
OSU, Mich, USC, Penn st, and Neb will fill seats.
My preference would be the B1G for the school overall - academic research + athletics and national footprint. The visiting teams have some good potential to fill seats as well, and some fun locations for those that travel or like a good away game now and then. (*Much of the same can be said about new teams from either conference, so not really a hill to die on team by team)

Your facts are wrong. Purdue founded the Western Conference in 1896 and Indiana joined in 1899. The conference name was changed in 1917. I absolutely think teams might choose to leave because of money deficits but they won’t be forced out. Not founding members like Minnesota. They will have a choice.

Look, anybody who didn’t see this coming even before today is completely blind. But after USC and UCLA are looking to bolt, it’s definite. The ACC is dead. There are no more marquee programs in big markets to poach. So it’s time to get out of this godforsaken conference and be proactive.

I’ve been told that some conversations have already taken place, and frankly with who our AD is now, I’d have been shocked had that not happened. But it’s time to join the SEC. The writing is on the wall in size 1000 font that within the next several years, there will be 2 “superconferences” of at least 18 teams each. Probably more. They will be the SEC and B1G.

Now, we have an advantage here. I don’t think there’s any scenario where we’re left out in the cold, because obviously Miami is a desirable market for any conference. So we *should* be fine. But it’s time to be proactive. There is no reason to be aligned with Tobacco Road any longer. The revenues provided to member institutions of the SEC and B1G will probably be MORE THAN DOUBLE those of the ACC very soon. So, the sooner the better here. I hope we’re not hanging only any sense of loyalty to the ACC. It’s time to do what’s best for this university and that is to move IMMEDIATELY to the SEC.

Let’s hope the leadership understands the criticality of this. We cannot afford to be left behind. My guess is we’ll be in the SEC no later than 2025. If not, it’s a massive failure.
There needs to be a total realignment across the board with the Big East and the PAC 10 making a comeback. Watch Josh Pate’s video on this. I thought he made the best argument for it.

I’ve always said that I prefer the Big 10 for academics but the SEC for sports.

I just watched this the other day. First time I saw someone realign the conferences where I didn’t vomit.

Exactly. I felt the same way. He’s the only one who actually makes sense on it. It would bring back a lot of old rivalries which is always good for college football too.

My facts?? I was going with the facts you provided of it being 125 years old. LOL

There is another option available if operating with a deficit - cutting costs. We'll see how patient and understanding fellow conference members actually turn out to be if a few member schools decide to run their programs on a Sun Belt Conference budget in order to be solvent.

You said the conference started 110 yrs ago. I corrected you.if you watch Big 10 games they often talk about being around 125 years. Teams all the time don’t pull their weight in leagues and conferences and they weren’t kicked out. Colleges in deficit will choose to leave not be pushed out. But our opinions don’t matter. Time will tell

Going back to regional conferences sounds all great but the media doesn’t want that so we will be stuck with 24 or so schools in B1G & SEC
Well that’s 48 schools then. They can divide the conferences up into smaller, regional divisions to 1) make travel costs more efficient for the schools, and 2) keep fans happy by ensuring traditional rivalries remain intact.

Or more to P2

Rest already messing up unless they know bigger alignment coming up again soon

MAC just added Sacramento St! Made
No sense

Dude, reread my post. The PAC 12 was 110 years old when its members left to leave Washington State and Oregon State alone to remake the PAC 12 as basically a slightly better Mountain West. I was being sarcastic that the extra 15 years the B1G has been around will give them more loyalty.

As you say, time will tell.

Yeah, I guess I didn’t say that right. Sorry, it’s late!

I was thinking in a few years...you know, when TOC decides this is all done and the P2 is condensed into whatever the Big 10 and SEC and media determine they are going to be at that point.

Although once the P2 is set, I could see the Group of 8 (?) reconfiguring into regional conferences that make sense. Maybe not right away, but eventually, once the initial contracts run out.
