MEGA Conference Realignment and lawsuits Megathread: Stories, Tales, Lies, and Exaggerations

Guys, USF isn’t a priority for either of the P4 conferences right now. ACC could try to add them to backfill once we and others leave. B12 could add em too. No way SEC will touch. Big 10 either at this point. They’ve got too small a footprint, mediocre TV numbers, and are a regional fan and reach wise.

If they keep investing though, I think they’re in a power conference by the mid 2030s.

Please excuse my ignorance. I've never eaten at any of them. I just know of the one near GT because a parent suggested it.
Haha you’re excused!

The one next to Tech is the main one, and way bigger. It’s fun to experience once. It’s an Atlanta institution. But there are much, much better places in town to eat, and TOC and I could name a zillion.

The one in Athens is just a small extension and not even a drive-through. Just a regular little restaurant. I haven’t been in, I’ve just passed it a million times because we go to Athens usually every year. I only live a little over an hour away.

They’re building a stadium and just got into the AAU too.

Imagine this board if USF goes to B1G before Canes go anywhere

The bolded part is not happening -- ever. The B1G is only going to add certain types of schools: state flagships and/or super elite academic powerhouses and/or high-profile brands.

USF is and will never be any of those three things. That's why they'll end up in the Big XII with UCF and be happy with it

first 9 minutes he talks about Miami to the B1G.... it's a really good fit for Miami..

USF is AAU already so that helps them but they're decades behind Miami and FSU when it comes to athletic prestige...

the battle for B1G will be for the 2nd florida school between USF and FSU... USF with AAU and FSU with athletic prestige... Miami will be the first team in from Florida because we already have AAU and athletic prestige... but I wouldn't be surprised if they prioritized UVA and UNC first to counteract the SEC expanding into those states when the next round of media negotiations happens....

"Too small a footprint"? What does that even mean?

"Mediocre TV numbers"? They are not in a P4.

USF is a huge Florida state school (and one of 3 Florida universities in the AAU) that is in the 11th-largest TV market that happens to overlap with the #1 area that Big 10/midwest alums relocate and retire. The on-campus stadium will open in 2027.

The Big 12 (and personal hero of @Empirical Cane , Brett Yormark) are insane for not having ALREADY offeres a spot to USF.

What?!? I was just in Athens last year and could have sworn it was still there, but now I see it was gone in 2021!

Don’t have a stroke, kids. Your brain will play tricks on you for the rest of your life.

Sorry, @JD08, I lied to you. ☹️ Please forgive me!
I have no intention of every going to Athens, or Atlanta for that matter. The drive is always miserable. I never would have known.

The OG Varsity is more of a landmark. I first went when I was in high school, but it is not so great right now.

Surprisingly, I went to the Varsity in Norcross, right off I-85, and it was quite good. I keep telling myself I'm going to hit the one in Kennesaw too, and I keep forgetting every time I'm up there.

I still have to take a field trip to Avalon to hit the new NFA.

IF LOVING HIM IS WRONG, I DON'T WANNA BE RIGHT!

I know you are in TV media game...I had heard Tampa area was big for mid-westerners.

True?

Would seem USF makes an attractive beach head for a larger conference right??

I’ve been meaning to go myself. I’m at Avalon all the time because it’s only 15 minutes from my house, but I always end up getting Antico Pizza.

Come up and we’ll grab a burger together.
