MEGA Conference Realignment and lawsuits Megathread: Stories, Tales, Lies, and Exaggerations

Within a year or two max AI will literally be superhuman at anything regarding reviewing legal agreements. It's not going to substitute people, it's going to be like giving someone powered drill for the first time.
And like all the top AIs aren't specifically trained on this kinda of stuff either. They are far more general. The only reason this area wouldn't be one of first to get hit is because the brainiacs making it are all much more focused on the STEM+Coding aspects.
There's another factor- lawyers dominate legislatures across the country, and they all know their time is limited in government. No chances that they allow AI to replace estate and trust attorneys, litigators (although it would be funny to see a demonstration trial with two AI programs), etc.

Frenk belonged at a place where you don't have to fundraise, where you don't have to do much other than manage things. Frenk lacked the people skills needed at a place like Miami, where you have to hustle, where you have to build relationships. A complete nonentity could fundraise at a place like Harvard, people just want to say they are big time Harvard donors. People donate to that school, despite having absolutely no connection to the school, merely because of the name.
This is 100% on point. Frenk’s best quality, according to people I know who worked with him, is that he was genuinely a nice guy and decent boss. Expert in his field, but below average in other areas that a UM president needs to be adept in.

As for Joe E., the reviews are hit or miss. Some people love him, some people can’t stand him. The ones that can’t stand him don’t like that he’s running UM like a mini Deloitte. He’s also a guy that very much believes in a hierarchy, which means that access to him is far more restricted than it was with Frenk or Shalala.

Has he produced anything positive of note? Anything specific on the negative side?

Has he produced anything positive of note? Anything specific on the negative side?
Positive wise, he’s a major supporter of our athletic programs, especially football. He’s also been crucial in making UHealth a money machine. On the academia side, he solved some minor to mid outstanding problems that professors and staff had been asking to be resolved/changed for awhile, which got him buy in from them. He’s brought in a good amount of consultants to work on various projects.

Negative wise, a lot of what I’ve hear is personality/how he operates. He has an abrasive personality and sense of humor (granted this is only what I’ve heard from a few people). He does not have an open door policy for all employees/staff. Very much believes in a clear hierarchy and only wants to deal with higher up staff/deans/directors. Shalala operated like that to a certain degree (not as much as Joe E though) and Frenk had an open door policy for the most part.

One thing Joe E has (which Shalala did too) is that he knows how to win a political knife fight. Frenk didn’t, and the BOT soured on him early in his tenure. One very prominent BOT for example, who pushed for Frenk initially, would very publicly tell people that he regretted his decision not even two years later. Were it not for COVID, he would not have been retained for as long as he was.

All in all, he still gets the benefit of the doubt from a lot of people, since he’s so early in his tenure. The athletic department, in particular, has benefited immensely from it. Joe E cares about football, realignment, and getting back to the top. As for the rest of the school TBD (and no, there still seems to be no strategy to turn around the law school).

Yikes. Sounds like he'll pay millions of dollars for consultants to tell him something the school leadership should know for free...

Does he care enough to bring baseball back to blueblood level?

Someone a few pages back was saying UNC would be the first domino to fall and it would be in 2026 I think.
