MEGA Conference Realignment and lawsuits Megathread: Stories, Tales, Lies, and Exaggerations

The landscape of college football is night and day different from 30 years ago. There is no way Miami could survive as an independent. No ACC teams would play us if we left the conference and why would they? The B10 and SEC have no incentive to play us as the dominate the CFP. Not even sure if we could put together a respectable 12 game schedule

One big issue there, is finding someone worth a **** to play. It would be hard to get a schedule worthy of securing a playoff spot. With most quality football schools likely going to 16 school conferences in the near future, going independent would be the final nail in the coffin for our athletic department. With 16 teams in a conference, no one would need to go OOC to schedule us. We would be playing G5 comp at best.

From the subject line, is going independent an option when the school wants out of the ACC? I know it’s been 30 years but Miami won 3 national championships as an independent before joining the Big East… I would think with sustained success similar to 2024 the brand will continue to be strong and warrant interest from some streaming platforms. Netflix, prime? Could field easy opponents in FIU/FAU/FAMU/Bethune/USF/UCF while re kindling some old foes in Penn St/OU/WV etc & trying to keep some annuals with UF/FSU/VT/Pitt

OH? Let’s hear the facts @mik303
100% vote from every B1G school in the AAU, medical research, academic standing, Miami media market, Florida recruiting grounds, financial investment in Athletics. Decline of investment and reputation of litigious FSU. B1G will expand to Florida and take the best candidate.

Hopes, wishes, and assumptions are not = facts.

I do hope you are correct, though.

Also, the Florida Board of Governors recently rejected the candidate UF tried to hire to replace the outgoing president.

It was reported the B10 presidents see this as a huge red flag, because they don’t want a bunch of nutty political sycophants in Florida having any sway over their decisions.

The point being that this could be another reason why UM looks more attractive than other options.
