MEGA Conference Realignment and lawsuits Megathread(Its still personal)

Currently Florida, the 2nd largest college football tv market, is mostly an SEC state despite having 2 ACC schools. A reflection of how weak the ACC is.

If B1G adds FSU, Florida will be a 50/50 B1G/SEC state besides South Florida.

If B1G adds Miami AND FSU, Florida becomes a B1G state.

It's the largest prize in college football up for grabs for TV networks BY FAR. Texas is gone to the SEC so Florida is the biggest prize left.

Yeah FSU isn’t bringing them the SFL market like Miami is. You can’t say on the one hand UCLA helps bring the second biggest tv market to the BIG (when Miami comparatively has better TV #’s than they do), and then wave off Miami bring SFL because maybe they think FSU can. Miami and FSU have distinct markets.
USC wouldn't come to the Big 10 with UCLA. FSU has no such limitation on itself.

Did you read all that??
It was an interesting "what if":

-ESPN is supposedly offering to take FSU / Clemson to the SEC for half shares initially, gradually increasing to full shares some
years down the road.
-ESPN would essentially sub lease the media rights from the ACC.
-If the ACC / Clemson / FSU agree ... then ESPN would extend the media agreement for the rest of the ACC members through 2036,
but would negotiate a new media payout to reflect the loss of FSU / Clemson viewership $$$ value.
-IF the deal is not accepted then ESPN would not extend the media deal, it ends after the 2026 season, the prime brands in the ACC would
migrate to the P2, if they have offers, others would leave for the B12, and whoever remains would then be forced with looking for a new
media deal.

That is the BAD thing about not being actively involved in a suit against the ACC ... a "deal" could be cut that makes getting out harder for those that aren't involved in the "new deal". Very few people know what is actually going on ... but it is not status quo.

Of course it does. However, what percentage of the college football viewing market in SFL does the University of Miami provide? Hopefully it's enough to satisfy B1G desires.
Last year's matchup with TAMU had over 4 million viewers. That's not too shabby for a pair of 5-7 teams. It definitely shows we've got plenty of eyes if we field a decent product.

The Miami TV market isn't really that large (It's only Dade County), more than half do not speak English and a lot less give a crap about college football.

Where is Miami in this?
JeJe, unless Miami filed a suit against the ACC and forgot to publicize it, I guess, in THAT scenario, IF that proposal were accepted, Miami is in the ACC for a loooong time ... but they would have to AGREE to the newly proposed media deal (which will be less than the current one). That is the big concern at THIS juncture, that ESPN will orchestrate some sort of mediation that will get FSU / Clemson out of the ACC, into the SEC, and also LOCK the ACC into a new GOR effective through 2036. Then we're screwed. Miami needed to be fighting to get out, not protecting the status quo. Hope FSU doesn't cut that kind of deal, ESPN doesn't extend, and we get to the B10. But UM needs to WANT IT and fight to get there. Haven't seen any sign of life in that regard so far.

You seem to forget that Miami and the rest of the Conference would need to agree to such a settlement. That would include other brands that want to get out, such as UNC. There's no way we'd agree to any such deal locking us into the conference long term. Especially at a lower payout. Not happening.

IF FSU and Clem were to join the SEC, that would not take B1G spots [if any remain] that might be available to us.
Bingo! We need to help usher them out the door. I still think that Miami has a wink nod agreement with the ACC as far as getting out when the time is right. That is why they are going along to help the ACC stay afloat after those that want to leave, leave.

Did you read all that??
I did read all of it, and it does make sense for ESPN to broker this deal for their own self-interest.

Strategic questions if above comes to fruition:
1) What does ESPN + ACC offer remaining "big" ACC programs to stay through 2036 as offset? Miami + UNC are going to demand bigger slice of pie
2) What does ESPN + Big12 offer Miami + UNC (and BB schools) to jump ship? I think that Yormark cat is an evil genius and isn't afraid of ANYBODY
3) ESPN moves almost demand Fox + BIG10 make run at Miami + UNC to encircle SEC geographically

Shalala better be advocating 24/7 for The U....

Thoughts????
