1.). Has never fielded an elite defense.

2.). He has NEVER played a down of football in his life. His dad was the mayor. He's the rich dweeby kid whose daddy hooked him up

3.). He was fired at Texas for allowing 600 rushing yards in one game. Failed horribly at a top program

4.). Manny Diaz is the reason we no longer play in the Orange bowl. He personally led the charge to have the Marlins stadium built where it is.

5.). Manny Diaz was so unpopular due to this, he was fired by the people of Miami and is remembered as a horribly failed mayor

We just hired the spoiled rich kid of the failed ex-mayor who, by the way, is a big enemy of Miami football. The kid has never played a down of football, has never fielded an elite defense, and was fired from the biggest job he ever had for doing a terrible job

Throwing out reasons 3, 4, 5 and because they are idiotic so assuming it's a troll job. His father's political career has nothing to do with his success as our defensive coordinator

but i'll play along

to point 1) I fully agree with you. in the other thread with advanced stats he has averaged approximately the 25th best defense but never considered "elite" and that concerns me, especially when playing top offenses particularly in the big 12 when he had the talent but still didn't produce amazing results.

to point 2) Chizik just gave up 700 rushing yards to baylor. Yet he took the UNC Defense and completely turned them around this year. they averaged giving up 40 points a game last year this year 20. One game doesn't dictate a guy's career. It was concerning yes but it was a long time ago and he has shown success since so I don't think it should be such a focal point to our fans.

Well this thread has to be a troll job because three of your five facts are based on his dad and that concerns you..?

but i'll play.

Dude, I don't like the hire. It is what it is.

Not liking the hire and wanting to talk about it in a rational way doesn't make it a "troll job" - just means we don't all like the hire.

I'm not the only one, by the way.

If you think he's a great coach...convince me. I'd like to be convinced of that. I just think Richt made a terrible decision

I don't think he's a great coach so I have nothing to convince you of. I didn't like the hire either.

But you're basing it on his dad..if you can't see how that is dumb then I don't know what to say

Does it concern you that Diaz has never played football? It concerns me.

How well does he evaluate talent? Do position coaches and players respect him?

Who on the defensive staff is going to do talent evals?

Manny Diaz won't be our DC after 2 seasons. How can you teach something you have never done?

IIRC, Mike Leach never player a down of football either and he is not the only one. Look I'm not thrilled about the hire but there is a possibility that he could use his past experience and the foundation and support he will have at UM and create something pretty **** good. Secondly, The Grim Richter isn't here to play around. If Diaz isn't able to sieze this opportunity and make it work, he will be promptly fired and replaced by someone better. Of that I am supremely confident. Richt knows **** well that this hire is a calculated risk and I'm certain he will have no problem dropping the hammer if he needs to.

Hey man I can't fault you for positive thinking. I'm also hoping for the best, I'm just not seeing the evidence.

But hey, we did get a GREAT defensive line coach, so that's the bright side

Maybe people would believe that you were just concerned about the football team if you stopped using our DCs father's political career as proof that he's a bad coach.

yet a ton of people on this very board still wish we had hired him over richt.

Kryptonite, as a Hurricane fan since 91. when you have to witness the celebration of a gator day on the home field of the Hurricanes, because the dolphins, our landlord, thought it was a good idea, and since theyre the boss, we had no say in it.

It ****es me off that the father of our DC is responsible for tearing down our stadium. which made the Miami Dolphins disrespect possible. We're not the laughing stock of all college football programs, we're the laughing stock of all the college football programs that matter. Why is that you ask? Well many reasons, but a big one is because we don't have our own stadium. We can thank our new DC's dad for that.

Sorry if my post doesn't make sense to you btw..it's late and I don't know how to put all the anger inside of me into a constructive senstanse, much less a paragraph.

To name a few... Hugh freeze, mike leach, and david cutcliffe never played college football. Todd Haley never played even high school football, so i am guessing you wouldnt want him as an offensive coordinator right?

Because Belichick played at Wesleyan does that make him qualified enough for you???

I understand not liking the hire because of his results but him not playing football and his Dad being a former mayor have nothing to do with his tenure at UM at this point.

1. Yes, he did. His first year at Texas.

2. Yes, he did. He played in high school. Wasn't good enough to play at the college level. And his parents divorced when he was young. He grew up with his mom and stepdad.

3. **** happens. I can cherry-pick awful games for every coordinator.

4. Who gives a ****? Richt didn't hire the former mayor to coordinate his defense.

5. Are you familiar with the concept of term limits?
