why is Notre Dame ranked two spots ahead of Miami when the Canes have the head-to-head win … and can being back-to-back in the rankings help Miami if it comes down to that with a potential BYU loss?

“The head-to-head is one data point that the committee will use,” Yurachek said. “It’s easier to use when the teams are back-to-back as opposed to separated by a team or two or three as has been the case. Notre Dame is a winner of 10 straight, 10 game win streak, they outscored their opponents 440-143, have been very consistent offensively in how they run and pass, very explosive offense, third in offense. And a BYU team between them is 11-1. Their record strength metrics are really, really high. They have a win over 15th ranked Utah and 18th Arizona. And their metrics rank really, really high as well. And Miami when we had our first poll they came in losers of two of three games, were inserted at 18. They climbed faster than any other team up six spots, have won four consecutive games.
“The committee still felt like right now Notre Dame deserves to be ranked ahead of BYU and Miami, and BYU deserves to be ranked ahead of Miami.”

The boldest part is important but also screws us because we won’t ever be back to back. Next week we are either 10 or 13. No poll will come out where we are 11 and they are 10. 11 next week turns into Virginia or James Madison.

It’s easier to use when the teams are back-to-back

This is our money quote. We want Alabama to win and BYU to lose.

This doesn’t make any sense. H2H they will use but didn’t? What?

stop

just stop

three weeks ago you could only compare two teams where head to head matters if they are in the same pod. now they have to be back to back.

if they are back to back sunday you will only be able to compare head to head if it is in the second half of the season.

This isn’t correct. They put the G5 teams into the bracket. They do not put them into the 11th and 12th spots in the poll.

There is a chance next week, if BYU loses, that ND is 10 and Miami is 11. And if that’s the case, do they flip them? Of course not, because whoever has my voodoo doll runs it thru a woodchipper on the daily, but could there honestly be anything worse for the integrity of the sport?

What? If BYU loses we move up one spot. Notre Dame goes nowhere. They don't force all of the champions into the top 12 spots.

Where did he say this?

He said it. If/when we are 10-11 H2H will matter because we will be back to back.

Now whether he is lying through his teeth is another matter.
BYU has to lose of course
But unless Bama wins or loses big, they can make a case for doing whatever they want with the 9/10 spots. Move Bama down for losing a close one or keep them the same for being competitive in the SECCG
