Combating The Early Exodus of Draft Eligible Players

Exactly, if kids know or think there are ulterior motives in regards to playing time no top athlete would want to come here.

The coaches are paid handsomely. It falls on them to make it about competition while doing whatever necessary to keep day 3 NFL draft juniors from leaving school early.

As evidenced by another batch of Miami juniors taken on the final day of the 2019 NFL Draft, I'd be in favor of instituting a method for keeping our players around for 4 years. It would constitute a mild adjustment and it's quite simple: keep them out of the starting lineup by subtly allowing a capable senior, sophomore, or freshman to start ahead of a junior with aspirations of turning pro a year too early. This would empower the seniors while keeping the juniors humble, hungry, engaged and out of the limelight. Now, this wouldn't mean a reduction in playing time for these select juniors – this is only about optics. Keep their names out of the announcers mouth and off the starting lineup graphics on television.

Here's what this would look like in 2019 and what it would mean for kids like Garvin, Bandy, JT4, Dallas, Donaldson in terms of a depth chart:

RB Dallas: there's already several among us who believe Harris & Lingard are better. All three will play a lot in 2019 regardless of who's listed as the starter.

WR Thomas: nowhere near NFL-ready and bringing him off the bench as WR3 is one way to reign him in. Also still earning back the trust of teammates & coaches.

OL Donaldson: has no business going pro but 3 & out is likely his plan given his 5* billing and immediate insertion into the starting lineup.

DE Garvin: 5-man rotation at DE so it shouldn't matter who starts.

CB Bandy: can be touted as our nickel CB. He would play just as much as Ivey/Blades but would begin the game on the bench along with Garvin.

DE Hill | Patchan | Garvin | Rousseau | Harvey | C. Williams | Phillips

DT Bethel | Silvera | Ford | Nnoruka | Miller | Martin | Blissett | Holley | Hunte

LB Shaq | Pinckney | McCloud | Joyner | Jennings | Brooks | Huff |Steed

STRK Finley | Frierson | Wilder

CB Ivey | Blades | Bandy | Williams | Bethel | Couch

S Hall | Bolden | Carter | D. Smith | K. Smith | Knowles

QB Martell | Perry | Williams | Matocha

RB Harris | Dallas | Lingard | George | Burns

WR Osborn | Payton | Thomas | Pope | Hightower | Harley | Wiggins | Njoku | Few

TE Jordan | Mallory | Irving | Hodges | Polendey

OL Scaife | Hillery | Gaynor | Reed | Herbert | Donaldson | Campbell | Nelson

Either that or we could just pay them like clem$on does. I vote for option B.

You have a valid concern, but your methods for solving are off base.

Coaches need to stress getting degree, graduate school, realistic draft position, stay another year to get better.

How'd that work for Joe Yearby or Venzell Boulware?

Why would you hurt your team by making your best WR your 3rd WR so he doesn’t leave early. That’s dumb u coach to win the games not keep players all 4 years. If a guy leaves early so be it that’s why you recruit yearly. Next man up. Re reload not rebuild remember that motto.

Not to mention you have Lingard as being a better RB as Deejay right now, despite not being able to practice 100% since October.
Lingard is still getting love based on high school he’s done nothing in college. Yet thes the best back to these guys

This is a made up problem. Our guys are not systematically leaving too early. Take a look at all of the seniors we had drafted late or not at all this year (Jaquan Johnson, Gerald Willis, Michael Jackson, Tyree St Louis, etc.). We criticized Norton for leaving last year, but he made the right decision.

But this is a message board for fans, so we will be repeating the same biased comments year after year. Next year when Bandy is drafted in the 5th round and Shaq in the 6th, everyone will be slamming Bandy for leaving, instead of Shaq for staying.

In this scenario there wouldn't be any sacrificing of wins since our best players would play the same amount of snaps that they would otherwise.

The only difference is keeping their names out of the "official" starting lineup.

Good troll work there.
Only question I have is what hook do you use and do recommend a leader.

Or...just give them an option.

Coming back to go 7-5 with no improved stock isn't giving them an option. I'd rather go get paid.

lol it don't matter man kids want to get paid now hence kids sitting out bowl games.... and most of the time you can come back and get your degree if it doesn't work out anyways.

Think about the state of your program if you have to do this for players to stay lol..... and exactly next man up.... factory style is in come in play 2-3 seasons and league bond and the cycle continues

Stopped at Jeff Thomas coming off the bench lol

Well done sir, you've given an otherwise boring off-season day a bit of entertainment. 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿

What do you guys think of redshirting Shaq and Pickney so we have them next year with a more experienced QB and OL?

I'm not so sure JT4 is our best WR. Most explosive player? Probably. But Osborn came here to fluck and Thomas is a month removed from knee surgery. Don't be surprised when Osborn, Pope, Payton are all playing as much as Thomas early on. Jordan and Mallory will cut into Thomas's english muffins and his catch total. Thomas should absolutely be featured in our offense but might have more use as a jack of all trades who lines up all over the field. Even under Richt he once lined up as a RB and caught a swing pass.

We have a shot at something special in 2020 if we can avoid our players leaving school early to get drafted in the 5th or 6th round.
